When I was in high school I found a spot where locals had been dumping trash. Found and sold three spare Chevy rims.

A friend and I were out chilling on some back dirt roads one day and found this curious structure out in the middle of nowhere. We hopped the fence and checked it out. There was a garden-level and a main floor, but the supports for the floor were mostly gone. Found a Pepsi can from the 1970's, and out back an old foundation for an outhouse. We pulled down some of the ivy and found a plaque that read "Lone Jack 1929." About that time we noticed a truck had driven by about 3 times and got creeped out (since we were trespassing anyway, and we were just 2 girls out there in BFOklahoma and no one knew where we were). So we went to the local historical society in town and did some research. It was Lone Jack School, and was abandoned after it caught on fire from a lightning strike in 1954. We saw the truck that had been circling the school earlier pull up out front, and learned the guy was actually the landowner. He turned out to be really cool and said as long as we didn't start any fires or leave trash we were welcome to explore his property all we wanted. Turns out he owned a HUGE amount of land and we had all sorts of fun that summer checking out everything from abandoned houses to sandstone outcrops (both of us are geologists. And kinda nerdy lol).

Back in Texas I found my 1959 Chevy Apache while doing some back road exploring. Ended up buying it from the guy for $100.

I've found a lot of interesting things in the woods, such as old knives, transmissions, engine blocks and other random junk. By far the coolest thing I've found is an old cabin and a barn nestled way back in the mountains.

There is an old trail back in the mountains here that nobody really pays much attention to, mostly because there are a few logs across the beginning of it. One day I decided to go exploring a bit, so I packed up my little quad with some snacks and survival gear and headed out. Managed to cross over the logs fairly easy with the quad, and started down the trail. It was definitely not used in a long while. There was plenty of overgrowth, and a few creeks ran across it as well. There where bits of large lumber broken apart on the crossings, hinting that there used to be small bridges over them. I rode for about a half mile through brush and tree trunks, and to my surprise there was an old house hiding behind some trees. Turns out the "trail" was actually a very run down driveway.

    000_0477_c54f1dda6740bbe9c2861699c4cf24d9146b0d3c.jpg

It had seen better days, of course. The place was falling over, especially the front porch.

    000_0482_6ae586b0b6ade5697d6f507b4e38dac291914eb3.jpg

The chimney had collapsed long ago, only leaving half of it. There was a creek running about 20 feet in front of the house, and across it was a small barn. The barn was in worse shape than the house, leaning over like it was about to fall.

    000_0492_0b8d4630ca64ba1db19095d4f0608027d7093707.jpg

    000_0494_7d0ab5902171a09025873aa6ee15bedea1370398.jpg

I carefully made my way into the house, watching every step. The floor had all but rotted away, and was very unstable. Inside was old abandoned furniture and trash laying about everywhere, even some old magazines from the 60's-70's.

    000_0478_1cd0136519d140828ee9131849b52e83e9ff0c98.jpg

It looked like whoever lived here left very angry. There was ripped items everywhere, and even a chair thrown into the kitchen window.

    000_0485_65fc8f4df644d95d3589efc18a9b84a18f1d268b.jpg

Also in the kitchen was a pretty old fridge.

    000_0484_863f3d12bc0fb8b8f438cdad860895ef1935ee3d.jpg

I wanted to go upstairs into the loft, but safety overcame my curiosity, and I decided against it.

    000_0488_48b126a42b25d5e7cca6a50f2b3befecb6016d5f.jpg

    000_0489_fab1ad91f0c63d3b97e8c3246d6fb6134bd8f5d4.jpg

The trail went passed the house and barn, but I couldn't get my quad over the creek. The bridge had collapsed, and so I walked through the creek and hiked for about an hour. I didn't find anything else on the trail, so I headed back and spent the rest of the day exploring the bits and pieces of junk laying around the house.

I was thinking the other day about going back there to see if anything had changed in the last few years. I attempted to find out who had lived there from the neighbors, but couldn't find out who owned, or had owned the property. Kind of sad to see an old cabin rotting alone.

It is out of that pasture, and sitting behind my friend's shop rusting even more. I moved right after I bought it and couldn't bring it with me, and now I am 1200 miles from it.

I think one of the coolest things a friend found was the tooth of a wolly mammoth! I have found a cool spoon on the beach that had been worn away by the waves, the whole front is disintegrated. My brother says its a drug spoon haha but I think it just got eroded.

The wooly mammoth tooth is pretty awesome! Cool find.

I get to see some cool stuff because I work outside a lot, always out in the field finding cool stuff. Stumbled over these little guys one day while doing some field mapping, scared mama out of the brush then almost stepped on them:

A guy I work with is a Cave Explorer and Mapper. Back in the early 70's he found a passage in a local cave that lead to a HUGE room. There was a mastadon tooth laying on a rock. Its now in a museum in DC i think. He is a little guy. 6'2, maybe 120lbs soaking wet. He tells the story of how he found that passage. Its about a 1000' belly crawl down that passage that is only maybe 2' high at the highest spot. He said he was pushing gravel with his helmet the first time he crawled in.

We tried to go back there a few years ago, but i was too big. My bro in law made it about 400' and decided to crawl back out. He was on his back sliding in and the rocks were touching his chest and he said it was too tight...lol I made it about 20'.

The first 2 pics are my feet going in that hole. The last pic was taken by my brother-in-law of me crawling in that passage. And this was in the biggest part of the passage. lol

    EDIT:

    Here is the link:
    http://caves.org/grotto/mongrotto/Bowden%20Cave%20System.htm

The most significant discovery was made by the Monongahela Grotto. On January 16, 1971, a mastodon tooth was found in the M.G. Section of the cave. It was positively identified by Dr. John E. Guilday, Associate Curator of Vertebrate Fossils at the Carnegie Museum. The tooth is 3x3 inches and about two inches thick. About six inches of the length had been broken off when it was found. In appearance the tooth is characterized by a white bone structure on the underside (root side) and a white and brown enamel 0.25inch thick. A few deposits of dripstone are on the tooth. The tooth was found unburied and lying on a rock in a small breakdown pile. Apparently it had been washed or had filtered in via a fissure leading to the surface. Knowing the age of the tooth to be 10,000 to 15,000 years it is most likely it filtered in via the fissure since it has probably been much longer than 15,000 years since a stream flowed in that part of the cave. Along with the tooth an odd shaped object was found which looked like a bone, but was discarded until a later date.

That is cool as hell!!! There is no way that I could go in that tiny hole though! The cave I mentioned on the first page (from what ive heard) was used in the prohibition days for running alcohol in and out of Boise, ID. We traveld a couple hundred yards into it but it was getting really narrow and we were crawling on our knees when we turned around.

Man some cool stuff in here,, That 58 chev is a killer. Some of the old houses are the 9's... That tells all of us what our forefathers went threw and how hard they lived...I have hunted arrowheads my whole life. Was falling down at age 3 or 4 try to walk behind my granddad , his mule and plow looking for the cool arrow heads.. I found this in a dry lake bed a few years ago and took it to UCF they said it was rare and it belonged to someone high in the tribe.. It had only one use,, it was a Man hunter. You can see tiny little bugs in it as its clear amber.. Coolest one I have ever found[IMG]
