Had some friends make a screened box and just shovel in the dirt and shake it to find them.

Didn’t know that, thanks for sharing.
I’ve only ever seen them in the wild here. But they’re one of my favorites to find. The whole color changing thing is pretty unique I think

I'll go back to these two places and really look around, and make a screen box to move a little dirt. I've found 3 this week. I'll be 46 Saturday and I've never found any,,this week I find 3. Lol

Welcome!...I'm no botanist but we do grow them. They are perenials and always come up white, then it's a dice roll on the colours they turn...I think based on various conditions for the season on what colours they develop. We've had varying colours year over year from the same plant.

It's a pretty hardy plant that just overcomes diversity, you should plant some in your home gardens

Played quite a role during the war against the communists (1957-1975).

picture #2 makes me think some kind of metal forge or lye kiln. If this was an area that played a role in a war, I'd have to imagine an upscaled forge operation in order to make more metal to support a war effort. Maybe not for the 50s, but way earlier in time. Would be interesting to see if there's ash inside there and if it contained lye or metals.
