Had an issue today that I've never had on any of my Toyotas over the years. Truck is a 2002 Tacoma Prerunner 2.7 Auto, 135,000mi

I maintain this truck regularly and have never had any major issues. Has been starting & driving normally recently except for one of the three belts (power steering, A/C, Alternator) just starting squealing about three days ago. I stop for gas & when I try to start the truck back to leave-nothing. No audible clicking at all, no dash warning lights either, just a fast pitched beeping that I've never heard before.
Battery was replaced in 2012, I have not checked the voltage because I loaned my multi-meter to a friend a week ago. I removed both battery terminals and cleaned a very small amount of corrosion from the positive terminal and tapped on the starter. Truck started up like nothing was wrong. I've have dead batteries before, bad starters, alternators and corrosion on terminals, but there was never any weird beeping. Any other owners experience this?

I've had two first gens so far and have never heard that noise before. I'm intersted to see what it turns out to be.

Sounds like an aftermarket alarm or immobilizer. Disconnecting the battery may have reset it somehow.
Maybe a remote starter gone haywire?

best i can come up with is just a bad connection. and the odd beeping was your standard "key in cylinder while door open" warning beep. But since the bad connection feigned a dead battery, the beep alone would actually sap all the power from the battery and the battery would feed power back immediately, causing the beep to be faster than normal.

but that is a stretch.... to say the least......

that beeping is too fast for "key in door" chime. it also sounds higher pitched than the "ding"

have you owned the truck since new? bought used?

My wife's Rav4 did something similar when her battery shorted out. But the gauges flashed also. It's a 2007. I would say the battery is toast. If it goes away after disconnecting the battery and using jumpers, well....there it is.

Different vehicle but when my Nissan's battery started going out...it had some weird beeping/guages fluctuating etc. I went and got it tested somewhere and they said it was good...the next day I went to Autozone to get it tested there and it wouldnt even start...they tested it and said the battery was toast....got a new one and didnt have any problems after that.

When my truck battery started to fail, the horn will continually activate. First gen and dying battery's do all sort of weird things it seems. I'm curious what is actually happening with your truck.

Bought truck used, never had any issues. Truck has no aftermarket alarms, remote start or anything like that. Will check battery voltage today. Truck has started 5 days straight with no problem since this one time issue.

If you had corrosion, check the cables.

On an older truck, I had corrosion work it's way up the cables under the insulation. It caused all kinds of weird symptoms.
Replaced the cables and all was fixed.

I have an 03 taco 3.4 liter and mine is doing the same thing. I'm also at a gas station. Had corrosion on positive terminal and cleaned it off. Still nothing other than acc power. No headlights.

6 years is a long time for a battery. You certainly got your money's worth.
Time to retire it, and take it out of the discussion.

Sounds like a battery with a bad cell or an alarm system shorting out.

I got a little over 7 out of my factory battery :D

not sure if Cold Climate got a higher CCA but was still same family of battery. My 2nd battery lasted about a little over 4½ years :|

Depends upon how someone maintains the battery. Sell alot of batteries. Some folks get acouple of tears some get up to 10.

I checked my battery. It showed 12.7 so I took it out and put it on charge. I changed my alternator out with a refurbished one. Thats all O'Reilly's had. Waited for battery to charge. I got it to 90% and put it back on and hooked up. Started the truck and it had a rough idle at about 300 rpm. Then it died. Couldn't get it started without using a jump box. So I guess next step is to test battery. Maybe it has a bad cell. Its less than 2 years old.
