I ordered a set of WT liners for my 2012 Double cab. While the drivers side and 2nd row liners fit near perfectly, the front passenger liner fit is absolute CRAP. After searching the internet I finally found a few posts on this site from people who have had the same experience so I wanted to throw in my two cents on the matter.
The problem is the placement of the holes for the new "twist style" floor mat retainers. (new to tacoma in 2012). For some reason these holes are offset, or at an angle to the back edge of the WT liner, where on the factory mat they are parallel with the same edge. Also, the center to center distance between the holes is a little short. The liner seems to be a perfect fit until you try to attach the retainers. It can be done but it requires shifting the mat at an angle which creates a gap at the kick panel as well as a poor fit at the door opening. Unacceptable for what these cost in my opinion.
I have talked with WT about the problem and they say that they have had only 4-5 complaints about this. They have offered a refund and even a discount if I want to live with the issue. I don't get the impression that they really think there is a problem with their product. They seem to think it is just me or something is different about my truck.
I have researched pretty extensively including looking at photos on the WT site of liners for different models. I notice they have a different part number for the liners for reg cab and access cab for the same year. in these photos the retainer holes are straight across the back of the mat but the mat looks to be shaped slightly different. Their part number for these is 444521 where the double cab part is 444531.
Here is a couple of questions for you guys,
    1) Is there really a difference in the shape of the front floorboards of reg/access cabs double cabs?
    2) How difficult is it to relocate the retainer in the carpet? I've seen instructions on removing the old style hooks, but not the twist type.

    Thanks for any input.

    Did you resolve this?
I was about to order a set, but after I saw your post I sent a note to Weathertech asking if they had fixed the problem.
I got a response saying they had fixed it, and sent me a photo which looked exactly like the photo you posted.
To be fair, it is a lot closer to parallel than the photo I saw of a set from a 2011 DC, which had a very pronounced stagger.

I responded to them that it still didn't look right, and referred them to your post. No further response from them.

Does it work ok to just use one of the clips?

    Hi Don,
I sent the 2nd set of liners back and got a refund today. I am very interested in the details of how they "fixed" this issue. I seriously doubt it as I got no indication of that being their intention, nor did I ever get them to really admit they had a problem. I would like to see the photo they sent you.

I believe they won't change anything until they have more complaints. I think many people are not as picky as I am and they just live with it. For the price of these liners I expect near perfection. I really liked the fit of the driver's side and rear liners. They should be able to duplicate that quality on every piece.

After I shipped the second set back, I emailed WT and asked if they were working on correcting this. I told them I liked the product and could wait for a correct revision. Right now my Tacoma is not a daily driver. That was last Thursday and I have heard nothing back from them. Funny they tell you it's fixed. Disappointing to say the least.

I considered leaving one clip unattached but that causes the liner to be raised on one side, and truthfully neither one is in the right location. Not a huge deal I guess, but unacceptable for the price I think. I also considered moving one or both of the clips in the carpet but it would be some work. It would also leave holes in the carpet. I decided I wouldn't modify a perfectly good truck to fit their "off spec" product.

I found some reviews (on this site) of Aries 3D liners that look pretty good. Im probably going to go with them. Really not crazy about the Huskys, although a lot of people seem to like them.

That's interesting Boone. Would it be a lot of trouble to post some pics of the passenger side? Same angles as my pics above? Also would you look on the bottom of the liner and post the part number that is molded in?

FWIW they fit in my '12 access cab. I had a small gap on that side at the door similar to yours. Once it sat out in the summer heat everything relaxed and fit as it should. I'm not sure if they holes are offset or parallel on the AC model. I can take a look tonight.

I know it's a different part number for the AC. Looking at the pics on the WT site I think the holes are straight. The liner also has a little different shape than the DC. Not sure why.

The reason I asked for the part number on Boone's is it is supposed to be 444531. That number is on the packaging they sent me, but the number on the part is 444071. One rep said I had the wrong part and sent new ones. Got the same ones the second time. Next rep I talked to said I had the right part.

Pictures are pretty bad, I could get some better one's tomorrow. They do sit slightly crooked in the door opening, about 5/16" overall. They do fit nice and tight everywhere else.

Did you check the part number? What about retainer alignment?

Part number is in the first line of text. Retainers line up perfectly.

So, your retainer holes aren't like this?

Exactly like that. But they fit exceedingly well, I don't see a problem. The stock mats retainers being parallel to the back of the mat seems to be that way so it fits the tunnel. If the stock mat was offset like the WeatherTechs, it would ride up on the tunnel if I am thinking correctly.

Yeah, I guess I'm thinking if the WT liner was not offset (like the stock mats aren't ) they would fit in the truck straight. Haha!

Chuck - I emailed you the details & photos.
    For anyone else interested--
Their fix appears to be exactly what they sent to Chuck.
Not sure if there might be a version of Tacoma that this does/did fit - need someone to poke their head into any Tacomas they happen to run across.
I did see a photo posted by someone selling a set from an earlier (2009?) which had the holes staggered several inches. I think that was also set up for the old style hooks.

After checking out TomRnHT's review of the Aries 3D liners here http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/product-reviews/296379-aries-3d-floor-liners-product-review.html
as well as recommendations for them by a couple of other TW members I decided to check them out. I found that 3D also makes this liner with a loop carpeted top layer. I'm sure this wouldn't be desirable to folks that spend a lot of time in the mud, but I liked the idea simply because of the added comfort I thought they would bring. I don't really "off-road" so it's not an issue for me. However, these liners have the same waterproof middle layer as their rubber topped liners so they still contain liquid spills and can be hosed off with the garden hose if needed. Most messes can be cleaned up with a wet towel. I have to say I am very impressed with the fit of these liners in my 2012 DC. Unlike the WTs the retainer sockets align perfectly with the factory retainers and the liners fit squarely in the truck as they should. I wont spend a lot of time on reviewing because Tom has already done a nice job with that. These seem to be the same liners as the ones being sold by Aries in his review other than the carpeted top.
I purchased these from etrailer.com. They are part number L1TY09002209.

I finally decided I'd risk it and go for the Weathertech. I wonder if there are some slight differences in where our attachment clips are located. While the passenger side doesn't fit quite as perfectly as the drivers side, there's no really noticeable gap like on yours.
There was a bit of a hump where it went over the threshold, but that seems to have pretty well disappeared after a couple days.

My mats are black so that's the color I went with. Am thinking the grey might have looked a bit better with the grey interior and not show dirt as much.

I'll probably go back to the mats after winter & mud season are over.

I read this thread before ordering my Weathertech mats so I was a bit nervous wondering if they were going to fit or not. The holes in my passenger side mat were about 1/8 inch off from lining up perfectly. I had to bend them around a little to get it to go and it did stick up a little at the door threshold also. It has now relaxed enough to sit flat. The drivers side was perfect.
