I was looking for floor mats for my 98 and saw that weathertech offers them for the 2000-2004 double cabs, third gen 4Runners and nothing for 96-99 extra/single cabs. Well knowing that the front of the double cab is the same as the extra cab I ordered up a set. They fit perfect. Doesn’t matter if you have the AT or MT, the lining doesn’t go high enough to make a difference. Although since I have an early model truck there is no hook on the carpet for the mats so I’m think I will get some Velcro to keep them from moving at all, if they even do without it.

FWIW, the double cabs have vent ducts that run from under the dash, alongside both sides of the transmission tunnel and dump under the front seat. So the floor mats may fit a tad loose against the trans tunnel.

    Can you confirm this?

just went and checked and pushed all around. Everything fits snug like they were made for the truck.

Well after talking to a buddy, I drilled two 5/16 holes and used a black pop rivet to hold them down. I have a big bag of these Incase they ever break. The mats do not move at all now after putting the rivets in.

(this is optional, you do not need to do this)

The OEM mat retention hooks from the Gen 1.5 trucks should be straightforward to fit to an earlier truck. It's simply a large grommet mounted in the carpet into which the hook system (available free from any dealer, I believe) fits. Find a grommet with the right ID to fit the hook's tabs and go from there.

Do you know if they have a mat for the rear of the extracab? I have a 98 and am looking for something when the kids climb in the back.

I have the husky version, fits like a glove. Based on my research, I don't believe they make a weathertech version.

Seems to have a better fit than husky.

I’m confused so you have a 1998 Tacoma but from the sight you bought the 4runner mat Since they fit in the truck. Because For the Tacoma on the site, they only go down to the 2001s but for the four runners they go to the 1980s. Or do the 2001 4Runner mats fit the 1998 Tacoma. I don’t know why it’s not clicking in my head, but could you clarify please? I’m trying to find a Weather tech that will fit my truck.

Mostly cosmetic but she ain’t stock(looking) anymore.
My Husky’s fit like a glove in my ‘04 front and rear, just had to do a custom cut and tuck for the center console. They were less expensive than the Weather Techs and imo have a better look in the older trucks

I've got a set of brand new Genuine Toyota Oak colors mats for the Gen 1 that I no longer need. Didn't realize that the color was charcoal or that super light gray inside the truck. Mats are still in sealed bag and box
