I searched for the WT poor fit threads, but can't find them. Maybe it's just a symptom of my bad day. Went to a friends garage to try, for the third time, to get the wiring for my off-road lights through the firewall, and had no luck. Took the drivers side, yes, drivers side WeatherTech floor mat out only to find the carpet underneath COMPLETELY SOAKING WET with salt water. Anyone else experiencing this? Have a suggestion for mats that actually fit right?

And yes, I know I wrote in another thread a month or so back that my mats were fitting right... I guess I was wrong

Were you getting in/out with wet shoes a lot?
If not where you driving through water frequently? In my second gen, there's a hole in the cab right under the drivers seat, and if that seal was moved/loosened for wires to lights and not put back, water could be coming in through there. Or maybe it just came loose?
If that's the case I don't see the WT being at fault. :notsure:

Sounds like a third gen cab leak

That was my thought too, sounds like a leak, l would be feeling all around the inside of that truck.

Was I getting in and out with wet shoes a lot? Umm, yes... it's winter in Canada.... that's why I bough the mats in the first place. Nope... it's not getting in from somewhere else. It's the WT mats not being made high enough. In my Hyundai, VW, and BMW, the mats were tall enough to contain the water... these are not.

Also, the water is salty... so it's coming off my boots. It's localized to one place too... about 4 O'Clock position on the mat.

Is it leaking through the mat hold down clips?

Might be salt water coming up through the body and soaking the carpet. The roads are heavily salted right now.

Had WeatherTechs for years and in many vehicles and never had a leak.

I would think that the water would have to come around the WT's or under them from cab leak or your shoes. Just a guess

Like they said above check mat locking holes for pooled water going through too.

I like my Weathertechs. Much better than the OEM mats I more or less gave away.

But hey, it's winter. As my wife would say, "knock the damn crap off your boots before you get inside."

When my W/T's get a lot of water in them, I put down a few paper towels to absorb the water. Next time I get in they are full and frozen... remove them and go. I find that if you allow the water to build up you will have humidity issues and possible leaks around the clip holes...

Well if you think they're leaking, fill them with water outside the truck of course. Since you said its licalized at 4 o'clock (4am or pm) I'd say the hold down clips. I make it s habit to kick my feet together to get excess crap off then rely on the mats.

Hoping by now you've already done this but make sure you get that water picked up with a shop vac or carpet cleaning machine.
I noticed I was getting my carpet wet when I'd relax my right foot and it'd hit the carpet sometimes. Not enough to soak the carpets, but I also do the little tap-tap on my sliders before I get in.

I had a car that got soaked inside from trunk left open on a hill in a rain storm ... seats & carpeting wet and I got it bone dry in 24 hours.

Put a dehumidifier inside and electrical cord in open-rolled-up window with a bath towel to seal open window with electrical cord.

That dehumidifier sucked all the moisture out of everything in that new car and put all that water in the dehumidifier drip pan.

Then stop at Walmart or a home center and pick up a 4lb. pail of Damprid. I keep one on the floor behind the passenger seat all year around. You don't have to worry about it spilling. It has ground up corn cobs in the bottom of the pail that soaks up the moisture. Just take the lid off and you are in business.

Yep... that appears to be the case. My Hyundai WT mats had a ridge around the hold down clips..... the Tacoma ones have a ridge but it's tiny. Not very effective.
