i am starting an experiment with this silicone specialist product that is supposedly water resistant which seems to be the major problem I have with other trials of various products
it will be the 4th or 5th (perhaps 6th) i have tried to darken black plastic and outside rubber trimming and keep it from going to krap everytime it rains or i go through the touchless wash

starting with the power mirror housings and windshield cowl
also tried it in the engine bay and inner walls

went through the carwash today and the product applied to the mirror housing yesterday did not fade to grey right away as the other products tried so far

    pics are pending...

a drawback so far is any overspray or rubbing on the exterior paint and/or windows smears and takes a bit to get off with microfibre towel

i have the chrome bumpers so they could benefit as well
but I do have other areas that are black rubber and plastic that have aged and weathered

this is a 2 month old pic, it is not this clean right now, it has been on 2 very dusty Wisconsin trails this summer and trying to get some clean back into it before the winter sets in
the engine compartment is a complete mess but a little bit everyday it will eventually look better

Interesting idea. I would go with a coating like Capro DLUX or GTechniq C4. I have gotten well over a year out of C4 on my truck and it lives outside 24/7. Yes, it seems expensive but a bottle goes a long ways.

another touchless car wash today and the wd40 silicone seems to held up on the mirror piece (not sure what exactly to call it), although I did do another app of the product last evening while applying it to the cowl part because it looked nice not being faded

works better so far than mothers back to black i tried upon a detail shop recommendation

this below seemed to just wash right off with a rain, i was not too pleased with it

Far better than any dressing you can buy. I had same results with the Mother's product. Better off lighting your money on fire than buying it.

Just an FYI, use of silicone products can wreak havoc if your vehicle ever needs paint work in the future. Paint/body shops won't even allow it on the premises.

i do like the claim it lasts for years, even under wet and rainy conditions?

the water resistant silicone spray did not work the greatest on the windshield cowl part, touchless wash rinsed it off
the mirror housing seemed to hold up so far

thank you, i shall have to stop and desist immediately
