Water sound in dash?

So here is my issue. 2004 double cab.

Today I was driving and noticed there is the sound of water (fluid) sloshing when I accelerated from a stop. The sound comes from the center of the dash and is not very loud. There is no fluid spilling out from anywhere.

The truck is a daily driver but I have not driven it in a couple days. It is garage kept and has not been in the rain in a while.

Any ideas?

Check the condensate drain on the firewall. If this gets clogged the condensation from the AC unit will puddle up and slosh about. When it gets full enough, it will spill out of the floor vents in turns. Ask my wife how my truck filled one of her shoes.

 

Coolant flowing through heater core as thermostat is opening lve heard this on every toyota that ive owned hope this helps.

 

I think its more likely the ac condenser juice.

Sorry not much help last post. I think its the same as the others said. Evaporator drain clogged up. Make sure its draining water on the passenger side fire wall.
Not sure why you'd be running AC where you live right now though. But that's where I'd start.

coolant level low ?

a common occurance when your anti-freeze level is low .
The heater core is at the top of the cooling system and the first place you will notice something is going on with the cooling system .
When was your last water pump / thermostat , rad cap and coolant flush

^^^ I would have to assume this is the correct response as well. I have had a few vehicles where this would happen.

 

Ok I see. I had a similar problem on my old truck. Air in the heater core. Had to lift the front end and run with out the radiator cap to get the air out of the system.

 

Heater Core was my first thought as well.

Make sure the coolant level is in the acceptable range. Might not be a bad idea to do a flush and fill.

If that's not it, then try what the other guys said. Seems like a sloshing sound would come from a contained unit (like a heater core) otherwise it would just rush to one side and spill....or at least that makes sense to me. I'd have to see what they are talking about though.

From under the truck, look for a rubber hose in the area under the heater core.
That is, somewhere around the outside area of the passenger foot well, behind the r f wheel, inboard somewhat. Sometimes the end of the hose is manufactured to be sort of flat, like the reeds on an oboe or duck call, to let water out, but keep air in. Often you can squeeze the end of the hose and release the mold and debris and water. Sometimes you have to run a wire up there. End of hose will be dirty and same color as all the rest of the road grime encrusted stuff on the bottom side of your truck, so be patient, you will find it.

At the shop I used to work at, we'd just take an air hose to the bottom of the drain hose and blow air into it. Voila, all unclogged. Simple process. That's where I'd start before checking and adding coolant.

 

That kinda pushes all of the crap back in to the truck where it can reclog the hose. Best to try and get it out of the hose.

I removed mine from the top and cleaned it out.

 

but if there's blockage, that could allow it all to flow out smoothly...not saying it's the best idea, but it isn't the worst either.

My only concern there would be spraying water on other components. If that is the case, and water is pooled up, that could lead to spray as a result. I'd suggest a shopvac before compressed air.

 

I have a 2nd gen that occasionally does the same thing, I also have a 05' civic that does it every morning after I back out of the drive way. ( I park it on a decent incline each night) they both make a gurgling sound when I level out and start driving forward but the sound goes away pretty quick and doesn't seem to do it again till it sits off of level again through the night. I believe its the little bit of air and coolant moving and trading places in the heater core as the car levels and the liquid in the system try's to find level.

 

Just pull the radiator cap off first and be sure coolant is to the brim then move on to the other possibilities. Simple, free and takes less than 5 seconds.
