First post. 05- 2.4- 5 spd. I have a strong leak @ what looks to be the water pump. I can find water pump replacement thread but nothing about timing belt replacement for this gen. All searches give me gen 1. Going to replace serpentine too.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

There is no Timing Belt. It has a Timing Chain under the timing cover. It should last the life of the engine.

That looks to be a 2.7 liter 4 cylinder engine.

It also appears that the bypass pipe that goes under the intake is the old plastic pipe that has a tendency to leak at the flange.

They have an updated bypass pipe that is made of steel.

    See this thread:

Thanks JimmyH. We’ll, that explains it. Is there anything else that could cause a leak in this area. She has 153000 mi.

As far as I know it is not unusual for water pumps to go out for 2nd gen Tacomas around 150,000 miles. I have 106,000 on mine and will be replacing the water pump soon for preventative purposes, will also be replacing serpentine belt, thermostat and doing a complete coolant replacement. It’s all right there so may as well knock it all out at the same time. Just my two cents.

Now I need to know what’s involved in the changeover. Is there a tutorial or photos? As usual, search gives me everything but. Now that I look closer, it looks like this may be the culprit as opposed to WP.

I know this may sound off, and might make me look silly, but I’ve always had better luck googling whatever maintenance tutorial I am seeking with AND Tacomaworld.
example, 2013 or 2nd Gen Tacoma water pump replacement Tacomaworld. I’ll usually get 5 to 10 varying threads from TW which are all usually helpful.
