I’m looking into a diy water pump and timing belt replacement for my ‘01 v6 taco. I’ve seen some cheap parts on eBay but held off on pulling the trigger due to the old “you get what you pay for.” Just wondering what the ball park is for a quality part but due to it being my fun truck I’m not trying to spend too much on parts. Thanks

AirCabinMan on Ebay sells OEM kits for ~$300. I just bought one for my '98 4runner. I was very impressed with how neatly packed the box was with every OEM Toyota part needed to do the job right (timing belt, tensioner, camshaft seals, water pump, water pump gasket, thermostat, etc (probably more stuff I can't remember)). Many on here will recommend his kit too.

And unfortunately if you pay a shop to do this....
you should engrave your old parts .....to keep everyone honest....

    sad but true....

light tap each part with a cut-off wheel.....

I’m looking at doing the same to my truck. My AC sucks. The RPM’s idle up when I engage the AC via the button on the dash. But the air just gets slightly cooler than room temp. I tried recharging it but it wouldn’t take, as it was already full of refrigerant. Would it be worth the minimal extra effort/money to just replace the compressor while I do the timing kit/belts/water pump? Or is it unlikely to help since the compressor obviously turns over? Thanks in advance.

if you are buying a kit on eBay, make sure to check where the seller is based out of. China is notorious for knockoff parts and they will even replicate the OE packaging. If the price is too good to be true then it probably is.

I would source an Asin kit over a risky eBay OEM one, previous owner put an Aisin kit in my 96 4runner some years back and it's still ticking along great.

I am having this issue as well
It should be MUCH colder running the highway

And I am leaning towards the evap part under dash being filthy AF since no cabin filter to keep decades of dirt buildup from occuring from fresh air inlet
    But IDK!

Aisin is my first choice. If not then a Contitech kit or even Gates would be decent enough

You may be onto something, as this truck has spent a ton of it's life in the brush. There was a lot of dirt pulled from the cabin during a detail. Appreciate the responses.
