Well, winter is soon to arrive. My battery is well into its 6th year, based on the battery date circles.

My truck is '06, 4wd, 1GR-FE, AT, with tow package. My truck lives outside enduring central Iowa weather, -25F is common. The truck gets used a few times per week, not a daily run.

Considering a NAPA Legend 34R with 800 CCA for $170 plus core. Its a wet battery, not AGM.

Been thru Autozone, Advance Auto, Oreilly's, Walmart for comparative battery. This seems to be the only 800 CCA battery in this area. I'm after the high CCA due to cold weather starts.

Comments on the NAPA Legend battery??? Good, bad, indifferent.

I know....another battery, oil, gas, lift post. Sorry, I wasn't able to find any specifics on NAPA Legend batts with Search.

There's only a few real battery manufacturers, so the general consensus is to get the highest CCA and the best warranty.

27F is all you need and they are a lot easier to find. 710CCA is still a piss load. Reserve is what you need.

Lastly the tie down needs to be changed depending on what you already have in there. 34R's are short and need a spacer or new tie down.

27F is the stock size for trucks with the tow package, as far as brand get what's available to you with the best price/warranty.
As @Bishop84 said there's only a few actual battery manufacturers anymore but many brands, the only real difference for the most part is the label that gets put on them, price, and warranty period.
Here in South Texas 3-4 years is about all you can expect to get out of a battery, doesn't matter what brand it is the heat kills them quickly.

Yup same, 27F is a hard to find battery vs 24F, 24F's often have higher CCAs as well, just less reserve capacity. Never had an issue with my 24F in place of my original 27F even cranking close to 0*f

    Reserected from the dead.
Why not? They are more vibration resistant and withstand a complete drain better than an automotive battery. Warrenty is the same, so it's a win because the price is cheaper.

Less cranking amps, not necessarily meant to be consistently charged.

Ok.....dug up the dimensions for 27F and 34R.

    27F is 12.5 x 6.81 x 8.94
    34R is 10.25 x 6.81 x 7.88
    NAPA site says the 34R is 10.72 x 6.81 x 8.00

So, the 34R is a shorter battery by about 0.94 inch (height).......but it has 800 CCA with 115 minute reserve.
Most CCA I can find in the 27F is 710 CCA with 120 minute reserve for about the same price ($10 difference) and warranty.

When Jan-Feb tundra weather rolls in to drain the mercury out of the thermometer......CCA is King for starting.

I can figure out a shorter hold down or a spacer.;)

    Thanks all.

There are only like 4 flooded cell battery makers in the US the batteries are rebranded Walmart, NAPA etc. I live in Maine CCA's match the battery size. Mine is a group 27 # 2 in 10 years and still kicking.

OEM Truestart. I replace every 5 years regardless. Cheap insurance. Just picked up a 27F (my 3rd) at my dealership for $120.

"TrueStart batteries comes with an 84 month (7 year) warranty. You get 100% FREE replacement for the first 24 months of the warranty period. ... If the TrueStart battery fails during the first 24 months, towing to the nearest Toyota dealer is free of charge."

No worries. 27F or 34R - which I almost bought but didn't want to mess around with fitment that day - just keep those terminals and lugs clean and your lights off...

thats a pretty good deal, ive been using autozone suralast gold for years, I just picked up a new battery under warranty cus i had my lights on my taco and the battery was low but it started, i ran it around the city short trips and the battery was struggling to turn on the truck and i went to auto zone and had it replaced, hopefully i dont have a bad alternator i dont think so.
