Appreciate any feedback or help. My 2018 Tacoma shut off at an intersection and I got a warning for high trans fluid temp. Took it to a dealer and they found a code for P1603 - stall code. They kept it for a few days and couldn’t find anything wrong. Picked up my truck and it happened again 2 days later, at the same intersection and about the same time of day. It happened after a cold start and about 1-3 miles afterwards around 8:20am / cold morning (54 degrees). The street was downhill but not too steep. Took the truck to another dealer. They’ve had it for over a week and drove over 100miles and could not duplicate the problem. So frustrated to have to go pick it up and wait for it to happen again and hope I get a code that will give them more info. This dealer even contacted Toyota engineers who gave them all kinds of things to check and everything checked out fine. This particular truck did have a recall for the fuel pump in late 2020.
Any ideas based on the conditions of when the stall took place? Appreciate feedback. Thanks

Get an OBD2 reader. Something like a Scangauge2. You can monitor the transmission temperature directly.

High trans temp warning is normal after a stall, a symptom, not the cause.

    Thanks for your replies.
Yes, there was a recall and fuel pump was replaced in 2020. I bought this truck in January of this year. Only 37k miles.
Pretty strange the stall happened the same distance and time within a week. Would love to know what’s up with it. Possible for a replaced fuel pump to give out after 2 years?

this is what i use with the free ios "Car Scanner" app. you can get the post-converter and pan temps with it.

works great, although may be a good idea to unplug it when not in use, as it still draws some power. But i've left it plugged in for a week while on vacation and my truck still started right up.

it sounds like an electrical issue. could be faulty wiring to the fuel pump or others have found they needed to replace the crankshaft position sensor

Yes, it was replaced from a 2020 recall. Ironically, I just found a postcard I received a while back about a class action lawsuit against Toyota for faulty Denso fuel pumps. Not sure if my replaced fuel pump is this brand or??

That’s what the dealer said. Would like to now what the issue is. Unfortunately they can’t duplicate the problem.

This just happened to me today, 4lo rolled back a bit on slick granite. Very hot day and the truck stalled and threw a AT overtemp.
