I just received my volant cold air intake with ram air. The box did not line up with the mounting holes on the truck. One would be the other wouldn’t. Also it seemed like the middle tube between the air box and throttle body was slightly short. The ram air just plain wouldn’t line up at all. The part numbers were 38235 & 38635. I used their widget for my trucks part numbers. Any advice?

    I'll start.

Five bills. Hahahha. Thats almost as silly as the 1k electric fan set up. At least the fan set up provides real performance, although, the same could be achieved for a fraction of the cost

And then we can go find all the trucks with 1-2 inch rear lift blocks that dont rockcrawl or off road heavy and bury them alive for not taking out a loan and doing a proper lift!

Mine didn’t line up either, but I was able to open the holes up a bit and was able to get it to mount up. I think there QC dept needs to look into this. I called Volant to complain about my figment issue and they said that the boxes are sourced from an outside vendor. The guy I talked to didn’t seem to care of the issue and seemed to brush me off when I brought the issue to them. It’s mounted and looks good in the truck, but I would never buy from them again.

If I were you and don’t feel comfortable with making the holes larger, I would send it back. My thoughts would be a S&B or an AFE CAI. They seem to have good fitment and videos I’ve seen people like them. I went with Volant cause I always heard good things about them, well I was disappointed and I’m sure down the road I will get a different system.

If they worked toyota would install them on the pro version and add $1500 to the price.

I worked with it and got it to fit. People can love them or hate them. I didn’t get it expecting miracles but rather to go along in conjunction with the ov tune and exhaust. I won’t make any apologies for spending my money on it. I work and spent some of my rathole funds on it. I didn’t ask another person to contribute one cent towards the purchase. But thanks for the advice.

yeah that’s a great deal. Just verify the model number is for you application. Also check condition of actual filter, replacements are usually around $50. And lastly if you have aftermarket hood strut kit the S&B air box doesn’t clear the passenger side strut. One of the other reasons I went with the Volant system.

Screaming deal on crappy filtration that allows dirt into your engine

The only CAI kit I would ever consider is the Volant with the Donaldson Powercore filter. Anything else is worse than stock filtration. I wouldn’t spend the money at all, but that’s a separate issue.

I went down this road when I was in my 20’s and early 30’s on my Bronco and a few newer pickups. My 2005 Titan convinced me oiled filters were crap. I remember the day I ran some cheesecloth down the intake tube and it came out with black sludge (air filter oil and dirt) covering it. I went Powercore on my 2006 Cummins diesel and it worked well, but there really wasn’t and noticeable improvement over stock.

Yeah, i see the CAI as a total waste of $$ that could be spent elsewhere. But for a drop in the bucket of $150 I would consider doing my own overview of one.

I would pay $150 to not put an oiled filter on my engine.

I bought the S&B CAI for my 2021 Taco Off Road. I was disappointed in the design. First, the stock box is a CAI, and well designed. The S&B "ram" tube doesn't fit tight and it ends within the engine compartment. Also, the OEM had 2 tie points for the MAF wires, and S&B just leaves them flopping in the breeze to vibrate and break.
I'll try to find a buddy to 3D print a better ram, and with out the RAM part - its identical to the stock.
Also, i'll zip tie, or have to figure out a better why to tie the wires down.

Over all, disappointed. Ill drive for a couple of weeks and see if there is any performance improvement (while I wait the OVTune setup)

How has the volant treated you? How loud is it? Any noticeable improvements? I'm researching and thinking of getting one without the ram scoop and pairing it to my snorkel. I already have an exhaust and tune and I've heard good things about all 3 working in tandem. I noticed it doesn't have a resonator box and don't want anything too loud.

I have an AFE Momentum GT intake with the front scoop and it works great with my truck with exhaust and tune. I took it off last week and put the stock intake back on and there was such a noticeable decrease in throttle response and low end/part throttle power that it felt like I was back on the stock tune.
