    Intro
Annnnnd we're back! Thanks again for all of the support on the footwell kits. They have been a major success thanks in major part to this community, and we have been hard at work designing the next mod I'm happy to be introducing!

    Function
The LPX is a mini lightbar modeled off of the 3 red running LEDs you might have seen under the tailgate of several full-size trucks, except it attaches to the holes on your rear license plate and provides 3 modes of lighting. When the truck's rear running lights are on, the 3 red LEDs on the LPX will illuminate in a lower (yet highly visible) setting. When you press on the brakes, the 3 red LEDs will brighten, such that it functions like an extra brake light -- perfect for people like me that have a roof top tent occluding the cab brake light. Finally, when you kick the truck in reverse, 10 super bright white LEDs will illuminate, providing you with a nice touch of light in the reverse camera, or enough light to see whatever you need when reversing.

I made a Tacoma-specific plug-and-play wire harness so you don't need to splice anything. Simply plug the connectors into one of your tail lights and run it along the inside lip of the bumper toward your license plate.

    tacoma_lpx_harness.jpg

If you have another vehicle, I put together a separate universal harness that interfaces with the factory tow harness. Right now it only supports the running light (tail) and reverse modes, but we currently have some plans to add the brake feature to the harness in the near term. It plugs in between the truck's factory connection to the trailer outlet itself, so you can still use the 7-pin tow connector on your truck (some people get that confused).

    Ordering
The price for a Tacoma-specific kit is $200. You can also purchase the LPX separately and add on a universal harness if you are someone that has multiple vehicles -- it will fit so long as the vehicle has a 7-pin tow connection. Everything is currently in stock. I wanted to wait until everything was done and ready to go before sharing all of this with you. Feel free to post any feedback you may have or contact me to directly for support. Thanks again!

very cool, there is current interest in lowering the glare from the license plate area during reverse (by physical block with a ABS plate and also what daveeasa designed inline), what will the light from this bar do during reverse? is there a lot of glare from it?

Good question. Here’s a photo of it engaged while the truck is in reverse.

LEDs are radial projectors. Since the LPX is oriented perpendicular to the camera it causes almost no glare. The vast majority of the glare is from the license plate lights that are angled back toward the camera. Utilizing something like the DIR (or other) will definitely improve performance.

That is exactly what I was wondering. Without walking outside to look at my truck (come on it is winter here) I was thinking that the top of the plate would be slightly underhung of the tail as well.
    very cool

Very cool idea. As someone with a blocked third brake light, I've been weighing my options for an additional braking light. The long LED strips that go under the tailgate don't really do it for me, I really like how lowkey these are

I have a backlog of truck mods measured in years right now.

Including NIB SS3 pro reverse lights. With red backlight.

No LP-anything though. Too far behind. Not even footwell lighting yet.

I’m like where Aunt Gertrude would be if she drove a Tacoma.
