Viper 2way alarm model 7656v installed on 2016 Tacoma, issue I’m having is the remote start not working.
When arming the truck you will hear 2 chirps, instead of just one chirp.
If I try to press remote start I will get 6 flash from my truck which indicates the hood is open which is not.

I didn’t installed the system my self but had a local shop installed and now I’m sol cause they are no long there.
Seem like if I disconnect my battery terminals for 5-10 min and put at back on, the remote start works normal but only for couple days and I back at square one again.

If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate.

Have you verified the hood switch is in proper working condition?

Hood latch. By the spring. I believe the connector is shorted for those without switch. You could try jumping the switch out.

I have a similar system in my 05, and my hood switch corroded and fell apart. Once I fixed that, my remote start was back to normal. Look around the edges of the engine bay. Mine ended up being a plunger switch near the latch that the installer added on.

Did you have to reprogramming anything after you fixed the switch deal? Or it started normal right away?

    Nope, no reprogramming needed.

Exactly. Shorting the plug contacts together would be the same as simulating a closed switch.

Suggestion: remove Viper crap and install Compustar.

If your Tacoma has a factory alarm, then the hood pin is integrated into the hood latch mechanism. But why is there concern of the hood pin here? What are the 2 chirps you're hearing?

The interface module is reading that the Hood is open. That’s also why you’re getting 2 chirps when arming, letting you know a door/hood is open. Not sure if all Tacoma’s have factory hood switches. Sometimes the modules just false. First check the actual hood latch and see if you do have a hood pin. If so, it’s possible the contacts are bad and it’s putting out a false reading. There was a problem years ago with the latches on the Highlander. If so you can replace or try to repair the latch. Also could just unplug the connector going to the latch and It will open the circuit therefor bypassing the switch.

It’s been a very long time since I used DEI products but with Compustar and Idatalink modules you can program them to turn off the hood switch input. This will take care of the issue but you will have a potential safety issue if you’re worried about your truck starting while the hood is open. The Viper module you could probably do manually but with the D-ball or whatever interface module they used you might need a programmer.

Or it’s possible the module is losing ground or something and resetting causing an issue. You could also try to update the interface module as sometimes there is a bug in the software and it can cause an issue. Again you would need the programmer.

If you don’t want to try and fix it yourself, there are probably lots of shops in the area who sell DEI products that could diagnose and repair it for you. If nothing local is around, Best Buy still uses those products so maybe hit up their mobile department if their are no local shops.

Yes my truck does have factory alarm but no remote start. I ask about the hood pin cause the 6 parking light flash from the viper alarm calls for hood or door open that’s why I was asking for locating the hood pin.
I had the viper alarm given to me as a gift and I had that installed from a local shop but looks like I got burnt so just trying to get some help.

Yes look like I’m going to stop at Best Buy or some other shops that are specialize in alarm to help me fix issue. But before I go that route I’m going to try to do it myself. I have gut feeling it’s something really simple, trying to figure it out with some assistance from everyone here on tacoworld.

I just downloaded the reprogramming on the 7656v going to give that a try.

So I had reprogram my viper and still having same issue. So I had disconnected the battery terminals for several minutes and plugged them back in and now it’s working fine like normal. Been two days since I have did that, not sure if I fixed the issue but we will see if the issue will come back.

    Thanks everyone for advice
