UPDATE - HOW HAS THE VINYL HELD UP 2 YEARS LATER! SEE BELOW.

    You wrap them!

I want new wheels but the wife had a problem with me dropping another $800 on wheels a 2 weeks after I just spent almost $40k cash on my Taco. So until I get new ones, I decided to mod the stock ones.

The OR stock wheels aren't terrible but I didn't like the steel spokes. I was debating whether to derp them or to vinyl wrap the whole wheel. I have a couple of large sheets of vinyl so that's what I was gonna do. Then I saw a thread by @Pikestaco about precut vinyl his sister makes that fit the over the steel parts of the OR wheels. For $35, I figured I'd give a shot.

I ordered the vinyl last week and it arrived yesterday. After detailing my truck today, I set out to wrapping them with the vinyl pieces I got from @Pikestaco. Each wheel took me roughly 30 minutes to wrap. This is how it turned out.

Here is one set of the vinyl cut outs. An extra one was included in case I screwed up.

Here is the wheel close up after placing the vinyl. I actually like the two tone of the black vinyl against the gunmetal. The difference is very subtle and almost looks more like shadows and highlights. Kind of cool.

Here are the steps I used to apply the vinyl in case anyone is interested.
    1. Clean the wheels really well. Key is to get all grease and oil off them. I cleaned them during the detail and then gave them another rub down with isopropyl alcohol.
    2. Next, peel the back from the vinyl and line up the two inside top corners of the V-shape on the wheel. Lightly stick each of the corners.
    3. Allow the vinyl to lay itself onto the wheel. Then take the side of your finger and work it from top to bottom. If you get any bubbles, just pull it up and lay it down.
    4. Once it's bubble free, use your finger to stick it down but leave the edges where it overlaps the curves in the wheel.
    5. Now take a heat gun on low and apply heat across the vinyl. The vinyl will "shrink" over the edges. Now use a finger to stick it down, working from the inside out.
    6. You will have to stretch the vinyl a bit to make sure it overlaps the next one. Again, heating the vinyl will allow it to stretch. Just don't overdo it.
Again, it took my about 30 minutes for each wheel which includes cleaning. Pretty simple just gotta take your time. It looks pretty damn good and the vinyl should hold up pretty well. Makes the stock wheels look a bit more aggressive. And it will pacify me for a few months until I get my new wheels.

    UPDATE 3/29/2020
So here are some pics of my wheels 2 years later. I have not taken any special care. I scrub my wheels with a brush, spray with degreaser, I power wash them, etc when I clean my truck. I drive in the dirt roads quite a bit. No true off reading but dirt, gravel, muddy roads. There is very minor peeling on a couple of the wheels. Example in the close up pic but nothing noticeable unless you're looking. For the price it's more than exceeded my expectations.

I think they are working on getting the pattern for the sport wheels cut. @Pikestaco hopefully will jump in the thread to give more information on it.

No, you walk around the house finding shit she bought and didn't need. Then get in a massive fight and buy them anyway. 48-72 hours later everything is fine and you've got new wheels.

HAHA. That wouldn't pan out so well for me. LOL

DO IT!!! It's why I made the thread. It's a great easy mod and you can help out a fellow TW member in the process.

Take something dear to her away, like chocolate, and then make a deal with her to get it back...Ha! (This probably won't work but instead escalate into something stoopid really quick LOL).

The vinyl looks great though. Maybe no need for new wheelz for awhile.

Nice job on the vinyls. Looks good. One question though... If u have the ability to pay for a $40,000 truck like u said, y not just negotiate the price more and then save some money for wheels. I understand your predicament though and hopefully u get them soon. Good thing my wife tells me to buy whatever the hell I want! Love the look on the truck either way.

I paid close to $40k out the door after California got done raping me. I paid $35,500 for the truck. The rest was taxes and DMV fees for Los Angeles county. I got a great deal on the truck really could negotiate it any lower. MSRP on my OR was $41,000. I already had walked out and they called me back 20 minutes after I left.

To be fair to my wife, I wasn't going to buy the truck until around March. But with the year end and the 2017 still in inventory, this deal presented itself that I couldn't pass up. So this expenditure was a little premature. LOL
