My truck has earned a lot of trail stripes the last couple years from lots of time on narrow/overgrown trails. Here in the PNW, it's mostly small tree branches and brush rubbing on the truck. In an attempt to hopefully (somewhat) preserve the paint, I've been thinking about vinyl wrapping the truck. My only concern with this is I'm not too sure how well the vinyl will hold up against the same abuse. For those of you with wrapped trucks, how well has it handled off roading? I know it will show scratches just like paint, I just don't want to wrap the truck only to find out the vinyl is going to rip and tear every time a twig drags along the side of my rig.

    Truck in question:

I had to peel a vinyl wrap at work one time and they took that thing to hell and back. Held up pretty good in my opinion. It doesn't really scratch but if if something hit it hard it would tear and that is nooo good

That looks horrible but it is your truck. Cheapest route of course would be to just let it get scraped up and look like a used truck...

@JDEMELLO might be able to comment on how a vinyl wrap holds up. His 16 is wrapped and he probably sees other wrapped trucks in his travels.

I wanna do this too. Cheaper than paint! Probably holds up against rust better too, less oxidizing.

ive looked into wrapping mine as the paint is beginning to fail. I was quoted $4500 for a full wrap excluding bumpers. In a single color. Yours may be more based off the design. Obviously it all depends on the shop.

They're quite durable but they're not bulletproof.

I'm not worried about price. I'll do the wrap myself, and I can get the vinyl at cost. I just don't want to spend the time and money to do it if I'm going to ruin it the first time I go out.

you might want to look into Plasti-dip. Cheaper than vinyl, and you can add a bunch of different options..

might have some insight. He had his truck wrapped with similar design. Not sure how well it held up on the trails though. I was working with a vendor to make custom clear bra kits for our trucks that covered the entire side of the truck from headlights to taillights. Clear bra is much stronger than vinyl, but also more expensive and would be clear. The deal fell through, but I'd still be interested in this if someone were to come up with something similar.

    Not enough...
So, i only have experience wrapping interior wood trim on my E92. How does the vinyl wrap stick to a vehicle that has been around, has scratches, nicks, door dents, etc? Isn't it going to peel in those places?

Also, what happens when you accidentally damage it. Do you have to re-wrap?
