Vin etching doesn’t match

I went to take a picture of my VIN today and noticed the window etched number had one digit that was different from the one on the inside door panel. I looked up the number on the panel which showed my correct info. The vin on the windows however doesn’t match any vehicle in Toyota’s database. What gives??

 

The guy who did your window etching screwed up.

The window etching is done as an option by some dealerships, and isn't stock. For example, my Taco doesn't have VIN etching on my windows, but my Honda Fit came from the dealership with them pre-etched as a dealer add-on. The etching exists to reduce theft or to catch chop shops selling stolen parts.

The VIN that matters is the one on the door panel, which should match the stamped plate behind the windshield.


I wouldn't really worry about it, it won't affect anything.

Unless your dealership charged for the VIN etching...in which case, go get a refund lol
