I have a 2010 Double Cab V6, automatic TRD with just over 100k that I recently just purchased. I notice when I get on the highway and reach around 60 mph I start to hear a mild vibration/hum. Its not a major vibration but its annoying and I am, trying to diagnose it. I tested it out some today and at 65 mph. I switched it into 4th with the same results still a vibration noise. I flipped it into Neutral and still the same vibration noise. Its not an unbalanced tire. It feels different than that, it feels like its in the driveline. The vibration/humm noise doesnt seem to go away even with a speed increase it only goes away once you drop down slower than 60mph. I have read it may be a unbalanced driveshaft or tranny mount. Any ideas or similiar experiences? Thanks

Another opinion Universal Joints are worn and possibly the center carrier bearing.

If you do u-joints do all three rear, if one is bad the other two are also close.

I found the problem it was the center carrier bearing on my double cab, there was quite a bit of play on the union where the two drive shafts are joined together. Thanks for your input.

For future searches/reference, yesterday I got a notice from Toyota about a potential problem with the Propeller Shaft Universal Joints (whatever those are). This problem causes "a drivetrain vibration and/or drivetrain noise". If your vehicle has this problem they will replace the parts for no charge.

I replaced the center carrier bearing and it did remove the vibration at 65mph but upon further driving I am noticing a small vibration now at a lower speed of around 55mph. This vibration I can feel in the gas pedal for some reason. When I replaced the the center carrier beairng I also made sure the other two universal joints were good which they were. Any other ideas which would cause a small vibration at 55mph that you can feel in the gas pedal?

Took it for another run today and its definately in the driveline somewhere, and more of a whining noise than a vibration. I tried it in 4wheel, 2wd, neutral and all gears with the same results. I also noticed that it starts around 55 mph disappears and comes back sometimes around 70 intermitantly. Just going to run it for awhile I know my driveshaft carrier bearing and all u joints are good now since resplacing all that last night. Just drives ya nuts trying to diagnose where the heck its coming from.

Had a 3” leveling kit installed on my 2007 Taco in 2010. Barely a few months ago I noticed only after take off from a stop, the shuddering as if I was driving over mini speed bumps. Thanks to TacoWorld, I called the nearby dealership and they replaced the driveshaft and leaf springs that were already on the recall list. The drive is like day and night. Huge difference. Hope it solves it.

Check for play in the aft-shaft slip joint.

I had to replace my driveshaft for this very reason.
