I noticed today a slight vibration every couple of seconds. It’s most noticeable at about 30 MPH. I can feel it between 20-40. I have a 16 DC OR. 2 in. lift 285s. I haven’t noticed it before. We just had some snow and I used 4WD for a couple days but would always turn it off when parked for awhile (work or at night). It’s consistent when driving.
    Any ideas?

Is there any snow packed in your wheel throwing your wheel balance off?

Does the vibration stop when you put it into 4H?

If the vibration is only in the 20-40mph range, and only when in 2WD mode, it's likely the Needle Bearing in the front diff. Really, Really, Really, common issue on Tacomas when lifted.

There's even a TSB on the issue for 2nd Gen trucks.

Amazing how Toyota couldn't build a front diff right on the 2nd Gen trucks... and for 3rd Gen they kept the same problem up front and then began building the rear diffs poorly (bad seals).

Until I went to the link that @Kyitty wrote, I thought you just wrote EGGS and I was severely confused. Thank you! I am still under warranty and my local Toyota is great about warranties with after market parts. I’ll exhaust that option first before I go with this one.

Bear in mind that if the dealer does warranty your Needle Bearing - they will replace it with the same OEM part that failed. Which has the same design and may well become an issue again. :(

That's why so many folks will recommend East Coast Gear Supply and their aftermaket bushing that permanently solves the issue.

My rear differential, air lockers, and gears came from the folks at ECGS. :) Good people so far.

I have a 2013 Tacoma double cab 4x4 with 134K miles. When I take off from a stop, I have kind of a very, very slight shutter, for maybe 2 seconds, sort of like hitting the rumble things on the side of the road to let you know you're on the side. Just at take off though. Today, I noticed a clicking or squeaking noise when I accelerate a little bit faster from a stop. Usually have windows up and radio on low so I don't know how long this may have been the case. It isn't loud because I don't have the radio on loud, mainly loud enough to hear it, and I can't hear the noise. Got under the truck and grabbed the driveshaft (forward) and it was tight. Grabbed the driveshaft going to the rear tires and it seemed that it was pretty loose through the carrier bearing. Not sure if it is supposed to be tight or loose. What kind of play, if any is supposed to be there. The transmission on this truck is sealed so if my transmission is going out, I won't be a happy camper. It drives fine and doesn't seem to feel like it is slipping. Any input?

It has a leveling kit installed by the dealer.

The driveshaft going through the carrier bearing is pretty lose but like I said, I don't know how tight it is supposed to be.

A lot of the vibration could be caused by E-Rated tires.

I have Nitto Terra Grapplers on there, 2nd set and always balanced. I have never had any issue with the tires. This is something new. I pull a trailer with a RZR XP1000 but it does that with ease, but maybe it has contributed to the newly acquired issue.

It is also only at take off that I hear the noise or feel the slight and quick shutter. While driving, if I put my foot in it, things seem fine.
