This truly falls under the not very important information or issues when it comes to our trucks.

On my old truck I was able to stick patches to the headliner. I'm noticing the material on my Tacoma doesn't work at all. But then I see pictures and videos of other Tacomas where people have patches displayed on the headliner. Did Toyota change the material mid cycle?

Idk, I’ve seen tons of people here cover them in patches

I Haven’t tried. Not much of a patch / sticker person.

So here's my solution for patches, just depends on the patch. The problem is that most patches have a large hook backing or large spacing inbetween hooks.

If the patch has a hook backing, I "smoosh" it onto the headliner, putting it in the palm of my hand and pushing while turning back and forth ever so slightly. You'll notice and feel it attach better that way. But it's definitely a "don't mess with it too much" kind of deal. If the hooks really don't want to attach, or the patch has no hook backing, I use the smallest fabric/upholstery/clothing pins to get them to stay. One on top, one on bottom, both being inserted as horizontal as possible so that it only pins through the headliner and not any wires behind it. Just be careful and if you feel tension, don't push any further. The wires in the ceiling are attached to the headliner.

Happy to post photos if that helps

I have a 2019 OR with mesh like ceiling. I find that Denser hook & loop adhesive tape works IF you use the hook end. Just as @flatironsoverland says with application, that's precisely how I've gotten mine to stick the best.

Put pressure on them and move them back and forth - they'll grab. Here's a pic of a few on my 2020.

9ft of adhesive backed loop (and some flat thumb tacks) were just applied to the interior of mine. We'll see how it all holds up. But I can stick on and remove, with the loop staying behind. I'll have to hold off on getting more until I can use the 9ft of hook I now have for other patches.
