Is the red bottle of Valvoline ATF MaxLife Multi Vehicle a good bet for power steering fluid for a 2006?

I had an old 80 series Land Cruiser where somebody did this when they replaced the ps pump and it ate through all of the seals.

probably fine, think I topped mine up with some left over Toyota World stock in my 09. But my 1990 truck was done with Ford mercon V because I had 3 cases left!

Toyota specifies Dexron III. The Toyota dealers in my area carry Mobil ATF D/M, which is Dexron III compatible. In fact the local dealers sell it for a lot cheaper than local parts stores:

MaxLife should function but may be more prone to leaking, because it's lower viscosity than Dexron III.

Basically I want something that specifically states Dexron 3, correct? Looks like Walmart might carry some.

For what its worth Ive been running that in my 2012 for 45k+ miles (since 2019 when I did my first flush). The research I did at the time indicated it was correct and I haven't had any noticeable issues since. Did another flush at 90k

    Snippet below from Valvoline literature

Yep, the fact you're changing it at all is better than 90% of Tacomas out there.

It’s been said the Toyota fluid is synthetic based.
I can’t prove it, and I’m not worried about it either.

There are synthetic and SynBeld Dex III fluids.

To each their own. The stuff I used said it was made from base stock. Which to my understanding is not synthetic. Oh well, it was too late, and I didn’t really care.

The only reason I even mention it, is because I like to try to give the best information I can.

I'd say you're usually pretty good at giving folks good info, Mr. Shooter
