I have been looking at tunes for my daughters 3rd gen Tacoma. After reading a bunch of reviews of KDMAX Pro I was going to recommend that one. Then I saw one on KDMAX Pro vs Overland Tailor tune that said KDMAX Pro was aimed more at higher rpm performance and the Overland Tailor tune was designed to make more torque at lower rpm and in a Truck that's what you want if your going to haul or off-road with it. Then I heard about the Valley Runner Tune but can't find any comparisons on it. Can anyone tell me how it compares to the KDMAX Pro tune or the Overland Tune as far as throttle response (I don't want to get her a tune that will spin the tires just by touching the pedal). She had a gen 2 Tacoma before this one and it was ridiculous on hot roads from a red light it would spin the tires just by thinking about touching the gas pedal, also where Valley Runner makes its power, and mileage improvements if any. Thanks

Valley Runner is the most refined as in specific to the truck year, tire size, gear ratio, etc. Also, the most affordable. It definitely improves throttle response without compromising mpg. Most owners getting the tune see up to 10% or better gas mileage.

Where are you in the US?

Also interested in hearing from those who've run both. Looking for a little better low-end torque and shifting characteristics without totally selling out MPG

I can't comment for OTT, but Valley Runner (non-sport) was the most 'tame' tune that I've run and I didn't see any MPG gains from it. It was a very fluid tune, shifting and driveability-wise, but in the end, I needed something with a bit more kick. I am currently running KDMax Pro+ and am pretty happy with it.

We are in Phoenix, Az. We tow a boat to the lakes in the area including Roosevelt and Apache which are long drives and you have to go through mountains to get there. The boat and trailer with full tank of gas and all the stuff you need in it weighs 3,500 lbs. That's why I would rather have any power gains down lower in the rpm range, also the shifting in the mountains drives us crazy.

I’ve driven Valley Runner… I had a file that’s probably a year old. It was okay, fuel efficient sure but lacked other areas where I wanted the tune to actually be a tune.

Now here comes the new kid on the block OTT. I’ve driven every version of that and it keeps getting better and better. The continual safe methods that they employ to develop the tune is beyond amazing. Torque where you want it, shifting is in point, when you need go get up and go it’s got all you need.

+1 for the guys at OTT and their tune.

A couple more questions on the Valley Runner Tune. What is Atkinson Cycle Compensation and how does it work.

I'm tuned to the new Valley Runner Sport (also install their tunes). It's very agressive through all rpm. From start to finish.

If you are interested in comparing tunes verify that the comparisons are the latest version of each tune. Not version 8.0 vs 1.0 of another. Those comparisons out there are in most instances new vs old. Do your homework.

I've ran both and I can say valley runner is a great tune and I've enjoyed valley runner for its economy and linear power curve . Currently on kdmax pro XT normal throttle settings and yeah kdmax definitely has more juice . From what your looking for I'm thinking valley runner would be more suitable for your daughter.

I came off KDMax Pro for OTT and it took me a while to get used to it, but now I love it. Having two driving modes available is awesome.
