    Nope not true.

My Valentine 1 picks up the signal almost a mile away. With the amount of traffic in Southern California it gives me plenty of time to check my speed. Here in Orange County, 75% of the time its Highway Patrol in a vehicle not on a bike and they just run their radar almost all the time. I know of all the hot spots where the motor cops sit so I dont even bother with those areas and just cruise along.

It has saved me a couple of times on the way to Vegas as well. Since I have had the Valentine 1 (4 years now) I have only gotten 1 speeding ticket and that was because the Valentine 1 acted like it picked up a false signal (picking up a false signal it gives you consecutive beeps and then resets) so I figured it was just picking up another adaptive cruise control signal.

Honestly though, I dont even worry about it anymore now that I have the 3rd Gen. Trying to get the most MPG and with the throttle response without ECT I am just cruising the whole time.

I do however agree that if you are not driving on the freeway/highway, you most likely are going to get popped because the cop can easily single you out. I never speed on the streets.

Awesome job. Can you open the passenger sun visor?

Camel 89: I picked up ignition switched power from the rear view mirror plug with Invisicord ( Invisicord.com) RJ11 cord 24" long
Judicar: Yea it's pretty level, slightly lower in the front. Even with that "shade strip crap" that is on the top of the windshield. Several companies make cords with mirror taps at one end of the R11 cord. I used Invisicord
Joe Racer 302: I live in So. Cal. a state that does require front license plates. I have not attached a front plate in 36 years. Had a few fixit tickets.
Baja Runner: In California the Highway Patrol and well as many small cities still use K Ka and X band. I have avoided many citations with my many years of using a Valentine 1
dowNNshift: I picked up switched power from the back of the rear view mirror.
Camel 89: The sun visor can be positioned vertically, but not flat against the windshield of course.

I like how you installed the V1. I was going to buy a V1, but found the Uniden LRD950 for about $133, so it was hard to pass up. I ended up doing a mirror mount and it works well for those asking if you can close the visor. Also for those who say a detector is useless - that's pretty true for Laser. You just have to be smart, but having one with Waze gives you more situational awareness. It's all in how your interpret the data.

Ditto for me - Mine has saved me tons of times since I bought it 13 years ago - and it is still working great. The only tickets I have gotten in that time: once in a different car, once when my wife turned the volume down and I didn't hear/notice it going off. If I would have heard it, it would have saved me more than half of the Valentine cost just that one time.

Here is my attempt for a GoPro mount for my Valentine 1 radar detector. I used the original suction cup mount, but removed the suction cups. I then created and printed a GoPro to V1 adapter on my 3D printer and screwed it onto the V1 mount. I plan to use a GoPro sticky mount and mount the V1 right above my mirror just below the black dot sun shield. I didn’t want to use the factory installed GoPro mount because I may someday want to hang a go pro and didn’t want the passengers to be obstructed by a radar detector. I opted not to use a GoPro screw so I got a #6 nut and screw for the GoPro union and a pair of #8 nuts and screw to attach to the 3D printed adapter. I only had green filament but will print it in black. Not sure how it will handle the hot summer months but will soon find out. I posted the 3D model on Thingeverse.com (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1288091). I haven’t mounted it yet…in the middle of a blizzard but will add photos once I get outside.

Just tried this. I've hard wired half a dozen older cars with a V1 hard wire kit. I had to laugh at how easy this was. Problem is the PerformancePackage wire is about an inch to short to allow it to fit in the GoPro mount. Actually you'll need about 6 more inches so you can cleanly mount it and tuck the wire up in the headliner.

Very true. I ended up using it to with my V1 mounted underneath the rear-view mirror

That's completely wrong. i have an Escort 9500ci. It is a custom install with front and rear laser shifters.

    1) Radar detectors like mine have a 1 mile + range. So I know far in advance that a cop is shooting traffic.
    2) Laser "shifters/jammers" in the front and rear scramble the LIDAR and prevent a ticket.

You're right, if the cop is good at his job all the detector does is tell you that you just got caught. my experience with this radar detector over the past 10 years is that 1 in 10 cops are any good at their job. They are lazy and just sit there with the radar on. I hope they continue to be lazy.

They'll sit there with it on so they don't have to do shit. My guys get disciplined if they do this. You're aware radar jammers are illegal and will result in you being arrested. Not sure about all states, but I do know in California you'll get jail time.

You're right. Radar hammers are very illegal. But laser jammers are not illegal at federal level. Laser is regulated by the fcc, which results in its regulation from a traffic perspective getting lost in beuracracy. Some states have passed legislation barring their use. California is one of those states. Nevada is not!!

Sounds like you're a cop. Thanks for your service. Cop lives matter too! Be careful out there.

    A few minor things...
How did you guys go about hard wiring your radar detectors in? I'm looking to hardwire my V1 and Dash Cam into the power in the roof but can't figure out how to get to the ceiling power.

    Any help is appreciated!

I used this: (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RA38XEK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00) and patched into the mirror power. As for my dash cam, I used a hardwire kit from spytechinc.com and patched into the fuse panel.

For my Dash Cam, instead of buying a hardwire kit, I purchased an add a fuse http://www.amazon.com/Lumision-Ship...&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00, and a cigarette lighter adapter http://www.amazon.com/uxcell®-Charg...&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00. I used the wire that came with the dash cam and tucked it along the headliner, and down the front of the A-pillar, tucking it behind the door seal. I attached the hot wire of the cigarette lighter adapter to the add a fuse wire, then ground the black wire of the cig lighter adapter to the nut and bolt right by the fuse box. All of this is hidden and tucked away underneath the fuse box.

The V1 was even easier to do since it comes with a hardwire kit. I used the T-tap included with the V1 to tap into the hotwire of the add a fuse, then the power wire plugs into the T-tap. Ran the wire the same way as the dash cam. I also mounted the V1 to the go-pro mount the same way as the OP did, except for one difference. I did not drill into the V1 clip, I used 3M auto molding tape instead. Only reason for this is that my drill bits weren't cut out for the job.

    I agree.
Laser has its own limitations - most of the time I see it deployed on overpasses by a stationary car.Waze is the best defense.

But my detector has saved me a number of times especially if I miss a speed limit change sign.
