I ordered some Cali-raised ditch light brackets and some Auxbeam pods to mount. I had a similar setup on my previous vehicle, a Grand Cherokee. I am very pleased that my Tacoma came with prewired switches because running the wiring through the firewall was the most challenging part of my previous install.

That said, has anyone installed lighting using the prewired switches? I believe that I have found the connections in the engine bay, but I am not sure if the Auxbeam lights will just plug into that connection or if I need to do any additional wiring aside from connections to the battery.

Any feedback or guidance would be welcome!

Use the pig tails that were included with the truck...check glove box.

I found the pigtail, but now I’m trying to figure out what wire goes with which colored wire. Here is the pigtail along with the switch wiring harness. Any suggestions? IMG_1111.jpg

Depends on what you are hooking up, On the pigtail, the thick white/black is ground, black is 15amp, green is 10amp, white is 5amp. I see red, black and yellow on your connecter, so what are you trying to connect?

I was trying to connect the switch wiring to the pigtail, but now I’m realizing that I maybe I will not need to connect the power cables of my ditch lights to the battery? I thought that the pigtail was just a way to connect the wiring to the switch, but it seems that I can connect the power cables from the ditch lights to these wires instead of to the battery. Is that correct?

How many amps do your lights pull? I bought the Cali ditch lights, and the wiring harness comes with a relay switch so I can use a much smaller amperage to control them. The actual power will go through the battery.

I agree with Sagebrush, ditch lights are generally fed through a relay. The pigtail will turn on the low amp side of the relay through the dash switch and the ditch lights will be fed off the high side of the relay connected to/through the battery.

After your comments, I believe I was correct with my original assumption that the pigtail wiring is only for the switch and not directly powering the lights. I checked the ditch lights in the relay is labeled 40A.

I am going to contact Auxbeam on Monday and ask them which of their switch wires would go to the pigtail wires so that I can get things connected properly. I will post the results of my conversation with them for anyone watching this thread.

    Thanks for the feedback!

With my 2016, I installed a light bar in the grill. The only way it's on is with the dash switch and the high beams. That way, when I'm on that lonely highway and detect oncoming traffic, I can hit the high beam lever, and it's off. I'll do the same with the Cali ditch lights whenever my truck is in my grubby hands.

Here's the wiring diagram for the relay switch:

I'll use a tap-it to tap into the high-beam circuit in the fusebox.

    Something to consider.

Update: I installed the lights today. I figured out that the red wire from the switch goes to the black wire on the toyota pigtail. The black wire from the switch goes to the white and black wire on the pigtail. The yellow wire on the switch goes to the white wire on the pigtail.

The larger pigtail under the hood is Aux 1.

    Hope this helps!

Can you take a picture of the location of the pigtail under the hood for Aux 1?

So I'm assuming your lights are using 15 amps or less? So no relay involved?

You can see the pigtail plugged in here. Driver's side near the front. There is a cap that you have to remove to plug it in.

The lights cam prewired with a relay. I bolted the relay that came with the lights to the frame where the box labeled "Relay & Fuse" in the Tacoma has a large wire that bolts to the frame. I am assuming that this is where the "Relay & fuse" box is grounded to the frame.

The Aux 1 (A) switch is a 15amp circuit that can be used to directly connect to the lights without messing with relays and additional wiring.

    Dear Crazysccrmd.
So I can just directly wire my Rigid Dually lights to the AUX 15amp pigtail? I don’t need a relay in the harness? I have the 3 AUX switches on my dashboard and the pictured pigtail.
    Thanks,
    Mangicaker
