I recently replaced my Wilkdpeaks (they still had some life left at 6/32) with some Rubitrex's. I kept the best tire of the Wildpeaks to replace the OEM spare tire. I'm thinking of buying another used OEM aluminum rim (16") to match the existing. Does anyone see any issues in doing this?

Off topic, the Rubitrex's have impressed my in their on road manners. I have no doubt that they will performs much the same as the Wildpeaks. More on them if anyone is interested.....

I have been using the same 15" wheels I run on all my Toyota`s for 15 years .

No problems but mine lives in the bed. Winter Chemicals are going to be brutal if it lives under the truck.

Original 2nd gens used full sized aluminum spares. No issue.

That was a concern of mine. I don't do much driving in the winter (rural upstate NY) but it still can get really greasy and sloppy.

This is something I wish I did as soon as I bought my truck. You can then do a 5-tire rotation which encourages you to regularly lower the spare and it means your spare is always going to have similiar tread depth to the rest of the tires.

Mine is original (DCSBOR) and it's steel. It's original as in Toyota OEM. Is that what you mean?

I did take notice of upstate NY.

You could put several layers of clear coat on.

Many a trip up in that area in years past.

I mean 2005-2007 Tacomas used full sized spares if I recall.

4runners of that era used aluminum 5th wheel spares as well.

Gotcha. Will the aluminum wheel fit the spare bracket? I imagine it would, but you know how that goes.

Yes cap off and valve stem up, otherwise you will scratch the alloy.

It should fit but who knows .

Some people stuff some big tires under there.

I figured that the bracket might damage the face of the rim. I'll give it a go. Now I need to find an inexpensive wheel. Ebay here I come.

    Thanks guys for your input!

Yes, take your spare down and look at it, it will be incredibly obvious.

My 2015 TRD came with a steel spare which had a tag saying something like for temporary use. I bought a stock aluminum and now do a 5 tire rotation with WildPeaks. Here in Colorado they spray with magnesium chloride in the winter. So far, so good! When I wash the truck I try to spray off the spare.

Are you sure? My 2012 has a steel wheel under the bed. I just removed the original tire and put a new wildpeak on it so I have a matching spare

THEY DID?!? was it a perfect match, or was it like the Ford Raptor's that powdercoated a different color to tell it was a spare?

Tell me more about the Rubitreks. How’s the road noise compared to Wildpeaks? Handling? Anything else you’ve noticed?

My 2005 TRD OR DCSB had a full-size aluminum wheel. Same rim as the other 4 wheels.

I bought a matching oem 16" aluminum wheel from a salvage to use as a spare.
I'm running wheel spacers and have been informed the steel spare will not fit over spacers.

I just bought 4 used rims because they guy wouldn’t split the set (same deal, wanted 1 for spare, and an extra)

they are this style of anyone wants one- [IMG]

$30 plus shipping. They are not perfect, I’ll send pictures of the actual wheel if you want one
