I recently bought a WIX 51334 oil filter and some full synthetic oil. Now see on the WIX website that for full synthetic oil one should use a WIX 51334 XP filter because the XP "filters twice as much dirt" as the regular one. I also see that the XP filter costs almost twice as much as the non-XP version. Is there any problem using the 51334 non-XP filter rather than the XP version?

You can use whatever filter fits the vehicle.

Some filters are better than others, but the whole made for syn vs made for dino is hokum (ie marketing magic) IMHO.

That's what I think too. I'll use the regular oil filter and not the XP version. Thanks for the comebacks! :hattip:

The XP not only "filters twice as much dirt", but also filters twice as much money out of your wallet :spending:

Nice to hear these ideas about filters. I have been wondering the same thing for my Prerunner. For two hundred fifty five thousand miles I have used Castrol Full Syn black bottle. The motor is like new inside and out. I have always used the Fram Toughgaurd because of the easy get for the price.

I've used Mobile 1 full syn 10w-30 and their M-209 (oversized) filter since my first oil change.

Does that mean anything? Nope- not a damn thing.

Just change your oil and filter on schedule and pick your favorite brand :notsure:

    See post 2

the D1 is recommended but the D3 is longer thus offering more filtering

OP, regular Wix is good. Might actually be better than high filtration filters because in order to do that, the filtration media is denser, which restricts oil flow a bit more than regular filters. That’s where a larger than oem filter comes into play.
