    Question for vets out there.
I couldn’t resist this rucksack for 20 bucks at Sportmans Guide, it’s huge and has a shit load of straps. Im just curious as what these straps were used for, they are a PIA so I’m cutting most of them off.
Label on the bag reads: MOLLE Large Field Rucksack.
    Thanks!

I think some of them are for cinching it down, if you don’t have it packed full.
Idk though. I carried an Alice pack until we switched to Blackhawk assault packs.

Some for attaching the back frame, others to secure the load tightly to the frame and within the pack. A heavy load that shifts and bounces will kill you when compared to the same load that is kept tightly controlled and tight to your body.

You’re missing about half the pack. No frame, shoulder straps, kidney belt or side load pouches.

Compression straps for securing the load within the bag is probably the ones you’re referring too. You’re missing the sustainment pouches, which those horizontal straps would go around.

Shoulder straps to tighten to the shoulders, load lifters are to direct the load to your hips. Hip belt to secure to your hips. Pretty intuitive. Chest strap to move the shoulder straps if it’s cutting off blood flow to your arms.

Thanks for the replies! I actually saw some of the other components sold separately.
Going to be using it for a laundry bag when camping so it’s perfect as is

the straps are there for adding horsepower so you can sell it on ebay and buy an ALICE ruck, like a real man.

They also make a smaller assault pack that clips to it.

oh, the good ole Molle II Ruck. so on the back side the small oval right are for attaching your shoulder straps, the straps with the slant cuts on the sides are for attaching to the polymer frame the stitched over tab straps also hook into the frame. the straps on the front side are for compression and looping in storm flap. on the sides there should be some Fastex buckles that allow some side chinching.

things missing, the frame(you want a brown frame or the green not the black), the shoulder straps, the 2 side pouches, and the lower back pad. you can also get an additional smaller assault pack, or the molle medic bag. there are other pieces, that arent necessary really.

that bad also will fit one of the osprey frames from like REI, that fits real well. also seen one modified to a Large ALICE frame.

still have a complete one in M82 Woodland. with the assault pack. have the molle medic bag in ACU as well, not my favorite medic bag though.

though with some 1 inch webbing these make really nice Trasharoos.

Interseting thread tripping some mental triggers.
The Molle was a goat fuuk to live out of.
We turned in all our large Alice packs in the 502nd for Molle about 4 months before deploying to OIF1

    Bad thread.
Seams and shoulder strap seams coming undone.

Multi compartment bullschit insted of 1 you could organize in priority.
Take schit out of one compartment in Molle and schit would shift and sag making putting schit back in a PITA.

They suck for road marching per their frame.
Hot as fuuk and uncomfortable as hell moulded to your back.
And long as fuuk in length.
You couldn't even get prone without molle shoving your brain bucket over your eyes.

Their was just so much wrong with that system when we got it.
It was not Joe proofed is the best I can say about it.

Whole of 2nd Brigade( 502nd) reissued large Alice packs before we left ( their is a god).

Only thing worth a damn out of the whole Molle fiasco was the assualt pack that you can see in my profile pic (age 19 and 39 soon to be 40)
    We kept the assualt packs.
    They didn't fall apart.
CIF had a mutant kitten fit about that.
Colonel Anderson basically told them to ESAD.

All them Molle rucks got sent back to manufacturer for defective thread and stitching.
Fuugg you very much to whoever made them and all the bullschit we went thru with them...

You can live out of that assualt pack with chow, water, and ammo resupply every 72 to 96hrs.
And have all the other schit you need as a 11B in it.
Wpn, Dome of obedience ( Kpot) Vest, Assault pack with your schit was how we rolled.
Drop assualt pack ahead of time for missions or on the fly when Dickheads wanna play.

Don't know what new Molle is like I retired in 08.
And I don't go camping or hiking.
Had enough of that laying down foot prints on this rock for 24 yrs.
    LOL!!!
