If you’re looking for a scangauge...

Advanced Autoparts has new ones with up to date software for 20% off and free shipping.

    $127.99 + tax as applicable.

image.jpg Picked up a used Scangauge ii on fleBay for $115. Plugged it in, worked great! Programmed toyota codes for the two Trans pan temp sensors...Didn’t work so great! Numbers were all over the place, indicated 2000+ degrees.

    Did some investigating...

For 2016+ tacomas with 3.5L you need at least firmware revision 4.22! My new used one had 4.13.

No big deal though, you can send it in to Linear Logic to get it flashed to the latest firmware (4.50 is current at time of this posting) but it’ll cost ya $25 plus shipping!

My good deal on a used scangauge ii is now $150 with shipping and extra time waiting for the gauge to get updated.

You can get the transmission codes here for the xgauges: https://www.scangauge.com/x-gauge-commands/2016-toyota-tacoma-3-5l/

Moral of the story...Just buy a new one. Unless you confirm the used one has latest firmware.

Understand your logic, and agree. Know what you are buying.

Did you contact SC directly? They have updated some folks here at no cost so they could use the new trans codes.

    I like having mine.

I've got an older version in an '04 that reads everything that vehicle puts out.

    Bought both of mine used........

I didn’t ask for a discount and they didn’t offer...Just paid to get the update.

I’m still in it under price of a new one and it looks new. Just thought I’d spread the word that a good deal may not be as good as it looks.

Leason learned. On to the next one. :sadviolin:

There's a thread on the unit in the 2nd gen forums, James updated my unit and also put in two X codes for the TPMS and TPT at no charge. Get both tire pressure and temp readings for my 18.DSC_0091.jpg

When I moved mine over from the 2nd Gen I needed the update. I ended up ordering the board and switching it myself. Easy peasy.

Ordered a board from Linear Logic? I figured it would just be a software update and not a hardware swap. How much was the board?

US customers can ship your SG to them and they will do the update- for us Canadians and other Internationals they offer a board replacement because shipping back and forth costs don’t work out.

I think it was $25 for the board- it’s a simple swap.

Just curious what is the benefit of one of these? Just for pan temps?
Does it read MPGs the same as the one on the dash?

You can program 5 TPMS with PSI and Temp readouts

Transmission temps from pan and torque converter (good for towing or excessive 4-Lo use)

    Digital readout for coolant temp

The other information it has is already available on your dash. Mostly useful for the folks that tow.
