Ok I have googled and searched. I can only find older threads about this.

so my iPhone running the newest iOS 15.1 won’t work with my USB port. It will charge my iPhone but will not allow me to play music. Also my text messages show up sometimes. Anybody have any pointers to fixing this. I have the iPhone 12 Pro and it used to work until this recent update.

Try removing device from Tacoma and reconnecting it via Bluetooth. Being plugged in (and not working)is weird, that could be a permission setting on the iPhone screen.

Done that. I’m not trying to be difficult. But I read all the “older” posts from all Toyota forums. That was what someone else said. Then on a Corolla one they said hit forget device and reset it up. I did that. The message appears really fast and it says something like this device is unrecognizable please consult your owners manual.

sorry I’m difficult. Also, my iPhone will charge thru the USB port but it won’t play music. And on the entertainment center it is “lite up with device name” and I can get to music screen under audio. But then when I hit play that display shows up that the device is not recognized by Toyota.

You could try someone else’s iPhone. That will tell you if it is the phone or the Tacoma head unit. Sorry can’t be more help. I just looked, I’m using iOS 14.8.

May be a thing. I have IOS 15.1. I tried to connect vis USB a week or so ago and received an error message. Since it was a short trip all I tried was turning off Bluetooth. No joy. I’ll see if it’s still acting up later today

When the pixel 4 first came out I had an issue with everything working properly over Bluetooth in my Tacoma. There were eventually se updates that fixed everything.

Check some other phones and see if you can narrow it down to the phone or the truck that's the problem.

Are you using an authentic Apple cable? I have had problems in the past where an aftermarket cable worked until I updated to a new iOS and then quit working. I would try an OEM cable and see if it makes a difference.

I just updated my iPhone from iOS 14.8.1 to 15. My iPhone works in my factory 2016 Tacoma limited both Bluetooth and plugged into USB port (one under radio NOT in console). iPhone also works in wife’s 2021 Rav limited via USB port.

I’d restore your iPhone and remove all devices from your taco…start from step 0.

IOS 15 is beta at the moment. What happens when you roll back to 14.8.1?
