Not bad at all, until you hit the higher speeds (aka 75MPH+) (for me at least).

The mounts for the maxtrax came inn a couple days ago. Tonight I was able to get them installed and ditch my crude home-made mounting brackets.

I did notice that the directions for the 2 bar install did not work out for me. So I ended up using the boards as a guide.

    20210305_185235.jpg

Rear mount on 2nd to last load bar. with the "ears" facing the rear

    20210305_185242.jpg

Front bracket on first load bar with the "ears" again facing rear

The distance is closer to.31.5" (it was getting dark) instead of the 25" in the pdf.

    20210305_185848.jpg
The first set of grab handles also went on today. I decided to put the first set up front to make it easier on the wife getting in and out of the truck.

The distance is off because they are not set up 100% as intended, however they will still work just fine!

How are you folks mounting to rack? Tried 1/4” carriage bolts with no luck.

Having a hard time finding m6 carriage bolts at the big box stores. Think I read on here m6 or 1/4 would work.

I using tracnuts for my cargo box mount but would rather use carriage bolts or similar for my water port brackets.

@upTOPoverland holla when you get a moment. Big bend in 3 weeks so tight schedule for sure.

    Anyone else have a suggestion?

When I have used 1/4" carriage bolts they needed to have the edges ground down a bit on each side. Grind a bit and test fit. After doing a few you will come to appreciate the roll in bits. After doing both of those methods and the slide in nuts. The roll in nuts are worth every penny

Thanks Pyrotech. I believe the roll in nuts you mention are the tracnuts I'm using on my cargo box mount. On the waterport mount, I'm really looking to be able to use nylock nuts for added security.

Hold on, I want to clarify this, because it is a bit hard for me to understand. You attached bungee cords to where exactly? The Groovetek? What did you end up attaching with the cords exactly? I've put about 12 pieces of 2x4x8 pressure treated wood and had that strapped to the Groovetek with bungee cords and it stayed just fine, no bends whatsoever.

Attach some pictures so we have a better sense of what you are talking about so we understand the issue better.

Yeah... I think everyone would want to see how it was rigged and what forces were acting where in that case. To me, it sounds like you might have just misjudged your securement point.
Using the handle as they have shown would distribute that hammock anchor point into two locations, trying to pull anchors out of the plate essentially, whereas your situation sounds like your bungee bent an aluminum ear. Or is it the frame of the rack that is warped now?
    Gonna need some pics...

I’m not sure what the big deal on the engraving is, but my alpha only has the UpTop U engraved if that helps. I’m sure it’s just different times in production

I just think that if you posted it here, users would be able to help you out, even if UpTop is not. we are all here to help, and showing a pic would aid us in helping you. Again, if you are not satisfied, I would be more than willing to take if off your hands for a reasonable price :D.

Ok, Groovetek is not meant to handle heavy loads, especially 150lbs worth of force laterally, since the Groovetek does not have a large amount of support. Groovetek is meant for light bungee duty, not hammock hanging, hence the reason they tied it to the handle, which has much more support/strength to it.

As for the engraving, it is because they changed their logo, shouldn't be a deal-breaker.
Right, because you put a heavy load on the Groovetek not meant to take that kind of load. If anything, it should have been tied off to the Armortek since it is solid.
Like I said above, Groovetek isn't meant to be load bearing. AFAIK they are very busy and may not have the time available to make a custom order for a single set of Grooveteks.
Agreed. Seems like securement point was misjudged (tied off to Groovetek).

    Hmm, see above...
    Yes, agreed.
No, a roof rack should not be able to tie off anything. It is like saying you can winch off of it. No way.

Right, they did not provide a resolution since you tied your hammock to the wrong spot for use.
Nope, they changed their logo, simple as that. If you really want to go for another brand, then sell yours to someone here and buy someone else's rack, quite simple really.
Right, little details like added load bar, armor plate sides, handles, and who knows what other things, since I have the old one.

Right, you are in MA, so you know how bad the roads are and all that crap with the weather and rock chips. Like people have said, pictures will do wonders here.
    See? GeoTaco gets it!
You can always undo it, it will just take time.
Right, lead time is crazy due to the number of people ordering them. Not much they can do about it.

No, I'm pretty sure they still care about us little guys, because they are still on the forums answering us.

    Nope, definitely not.
I'm just thinking of things from a material selection and design perspective vs real world use.
No one likes to have mistakes pointed out, but it sounds like you made a mistake with how you loaded the material. Keep in mind the material properties of aluminum, the entity shape that is being loaded, and the type of forces going into the material.

Pics would also inform the rest of us. I am curious to see exactly what bent, not just reading about it. If pics aren't worth your time, why bother sharing? Its no skin off your back to find one or two photos to back up your claim.

    Yes, agreed.
I'm fairly certain it doesn't matter what kind of knot you use, as long as it doesn't slip and you bang your head.

Yes, they showed the hammock hanging from the HANDLE as you hand mentioned, not the Groovetek...

Does it matter who responds to you? This is a forum you know...
    I hope others don't either.
Right, like you mentioned, they hung it on the handle, where you hung it on the Groovetek, exactly as you mentioned.
A busy company is busy, when they can respond, they will.
Yup, should be worth the wait. But you know, like Mark is saying, don't hang stuff where it's not supposed to, even when it says the Groovetek is meant for bungees.
Happens to the best of us unfortunately. At least you got a patch.
