Hey guys ! Do you guys recommend getting after market upper control arms after a 6 in lift? If so what brand would look and perform better?

There is no need for them with a drop bracket kit. Unless you want to have a custom alignment with higher than normal caster.

Total Chaos says their heim joint UCAs are for 6" drop bracket lifts.

Why are you lifting your Tacoma 6 inches?

No need, 6 inch spindle lifts actually have pretty solid geometry.

Better CV axle angles as well!

For those that say you don’t need UCAs, is this also true if you add coilovers? My understanding is you will need different UCAs, is this true?

Add coilovers or any struts to a 6" spindle lift? Or a 6" suspension lift via coilovers?

I currently have a spacer DB lift, I want to replace the front spacers and shocks with coilovers.

You will need far more than UCAs if your want a driveable and useful 6" suspension only lift.

Have to ask, what benefit does a 6" lift have that a 3" doesn't in real off road use?

Edit: you want to "upgrade" to longer shocks/coilovers and keep your DB setup?

I currently have a 6” drop bracket lift, bought the truck that way. There are a few options to put on some coil overs that take place of the spacer/stock shock for 6” DB lifts. What would be the issue with using these? I can’t go backwards now that the cross member has been cut so this is what I’m working with and my understanding is if I go with the coilover replacement I need the aftermarket UCAs

There is no direct need for aftermarket UCAs with a drop bracket lift because the suspension ride height, travel, geometry, etc is unaffected. The lift simply changes the distance between your factory suspension and the frame.

EDiT: you would get better answers if described your lift in more detail. Just saying “6” lift” implies you have a drop bracket lift with stock coilovers with spacers between the coilover top and the shock mount such that the IFS suspension geometry remains close to stock.

Not sure, probably depends on the coilovers you pick and how they effect the spacing between the upper and lower shock mounts.

Typically, if the lift from the springs/coilovers are more than 2" then UCA is recommended and the higher it is the more necessary. If the coilovers you get don't provide any lift over stock (which is what you have now I assume), then you shouldn't need UCAs.

I've never had to add arms to a DB with coils or spacers.

The new knuckle negates the need for upper arms.

Be aware that most DB's don't take 16" tires, most are 17"" up.

Three more inches of clearance between your frame and the ground and 6” more between your body and the top of your tires. Do I recommend it? Probably not

Yep, mine won’t take anything smaller than 18” (currently have 20” and moving down to 18” soon). Good to know about the UCAs, I thought I would be required to run new ones because of the coilovers.

Do you have traction bars? They are worthwhile with the big brodozer lifts.

Frame? The frame is already way higher than the control arms and rear axle.

I do not, and the more I keep reading all this stuff I need to do the more I should just sell the truck and get a full size lol. Bought the truck from the dealership with the lift already installed, could recoup most of my money in the current market. Thought I could go with a coilovers setup to compensate for the spacer lift, not many people seem to be about the 6” lift.

Tacomas are better for trails than full sized pigs, but I get what you're saying.

No matter what it holds its value if you change your mind.

DB lifts are fine, I would prefer it for any water crossings or trails we have up here. I don't do rock crawling.

The big reason I was attracted to the 6” was because of the water crossings and trails as well. I just want to make a bit more capable by adding the coil overs. Not a lot of love for the DB lift on here, somewhat understandably. Still weighing options, but the coil over options for the front end were a relatively attractive option.
