I'd like to just get the best performance from my stock headlights. From reading, it sounds like simply upgrading the stock harness so the headlights pull power directly from the battery is the way to go. And while I like the thought of making my own harness, I haven't seen any good, step-by-step instructions, which is what I would need to even attempt this.

My concern is a post that says: "Toyotas and maybe other brands that switch the negative side of the headlight circuit require a specially made harness. Some of the Toyotas have problems with dash lighting with after market harnesses. I bought a Toyota harness from Susquehanna MotorSports a couple of years ago, it didn't work on my Tundra, and I redesigned it by removing unneeded parts to solve the dash light problem I didn't have. (Toyotas have the positive wire always connected to the headlights and switch the negative side. Is this more reliable than switching the positive and connecting the negative to ground?)" - http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1124460

Is this correct or is this guy wrong about how Toyotas are wired?

I've seen people refer to suvlights as having a quality harness that's built with relays, fuses, etc., but their website seems to be offline right now.

The Putco 230004HW 100W Heavy Duty Harness & Relay ( https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=Putco+230004HW ) seems to be a good price, but unless I'm wrong, it doesn't have inline fuses? I found a video that explains how to install it too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHql9CZHN1g

Using the Putco and adding an inline fuse(s) seems to be a pretty goof-proof way to do the upgrade?

I used a LowRangeOffroad harness for my 96, was upgrading to H4 but had to swap a few of the wires to make both High and Low work correctly. My High beam indicator still works but it's not as bright as before. I think I used a diagram from Daniel Stern Lighting to make sure all the wires were going to the right location.
