Does anyone have any feedback on removing the second pair of unmonitored catalytic converters to improve exhaust flow?

Just make sure about how your state performs emission inspections

Did you do anything else to the exhaust or just remove the two unmonitored cats?

Lot of effort for tiny amount of gain gain. You will get dinged if you state does emission checks.

Leave it parked overnight in a sketchy neighborhood. The cats will almost certainly be gone.

They are on there for a reason. By posting this it is a admission of guilt and the fine is up to $10,000 strangely being caught with out one isn't. Bashing the innards out of it is just as illeagal. You may want to sell the truck at some point and that too maybe a problem.

Wow!! Quite the attitude this morning. First off there will still be two catalytic converters in place so legally not really an issue. Second, this post is merely a query.

    (a) it is a federal crime to remove catalytic converters or any other emissions control devices
    (b) fuck the government
    (c) it improves air flow, the whole purpose of an engine, so it is an improvement
    (d) it increases noise, and it is just a V6, so expect Fast and Furious not Roadkill.

It is still tampering with emission related parts the second ones are there for a reason. Have at it but I can tell you a butt dino is grossly inaccurate. Noise often equates to more HP.

if you want to improve exhaust flow this motor is hugely responsive if you do it right. removing the second cats alone will not do much aside from opening the Pandora's box of drone with a bit more throttle response. if you really want to improve performance, then the 2gr-fks does well with an open-flow media-less exhaust. any restriction along the way will have a big impact on this small motor, but once restrictions are mostly removed the performance changes hugely, like a totally different motor with how it runs and delivers power. but for that you'll be needing to replace and redo the whole exhaust line front to back.

Attitudes come out when people ask something silly. Unless you need a quick $100, taking off your cats is a terrible idea for zero performance gain.

No one is saying they are needed or offer value or that 5 or 10 of them are better or worse - it is simply stated that removing or tampering with emissions devices is a federal crime. Now that you know and accept that single fact: fuck government; free men do not ask government to approve things. You want it off? Take it off, but don't expect anything more than drone unless you get remaining airflow restrictions fixed. And for that you need to replace the muffler and cats with free-flowing devices, and increase throttle-body flow, and then remap the ECU to accommodate that increase in flow. Headers would also be a good idea.

The 1st Cat handles some of the noxious exhaust chemicals. The 2nd Cat handles the exhaust chemicals the 1st Cat doesn't affect. The CATs have different reactions occurring to clean the exhaust.

Yes, tampering or removal of any Emission Control is a Federal violation. Enforcement will depend on locality.

I recall a few years past when the smog was thick and choking people causing all sorts of respiratory issues. I lived in China for 6 years, they don't have Air Quality requirements. Many days the air was foul enough to actually have taste. At times visibility was only 1/2 mile. You ask what is the relation......USA was in the same situation in the 50-60's.

Suggest you don't remove the 2nd CAT. If you want performance improvements, then do some research to learn all that is needed to achieve your goals. Just FUBARing the exhaust will not give you any improvements in performance. It will only increase noise and pollution, while placing you at risk for potential fines.

    Good Luck.
