I have a new '19 Off Road. Just moved to South Texas.... going to be doing some beach driving while stationed here.

How important is it to undercoat?
And if it's important; is Ziebert's a good company to go with?

Be cautious with commercial undercoating. If it’s not done right it will trap salty moisture and make it rust faster. Look up woolwax or fluid film methods on YouTube. You’ll have to reapply every year. Is a lanolin-based product, but won’t trap moisture.

Ziebart and other rubber undercoatings will ruin your vehicle, and some mechanics will even refuse to work on vehicles coated with the crap for good reason. Stick with oil type yearly undercoatings. Does not wreck anything, and is not permanent, and works very well. Your better off using nothing versus those rubberized coatings.

Get a set of rain pants and a rain coat, after a beach trip crawl under at the car wash and go to town washing underneath. People still laugh at me when I do this but it works.

Rubberized undercoating will destroy your truck in about 10 years. The coating will crack after 4-5 years and trap moisture. Removing the coating is impossible because it gums up every tool that comes in contact with it.

    is it important? yes.

Buy this and get the extension wand for inside the frame. D it twice a year if living near the coast.

buying a gallon container also helps too since you can rub or brush it on where more control is needed. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004NDDCKK/ref=psdc_15718511_t1_B00CLTXPX2
(I bought the gallon and first time I opened it split it in to a bunch of smaller mason jars)...

each underoating takes 3 aeresol cans and 2 mason jars...

Just a post today from South Main Auto's FB feed. Looks like the moisture trapped under the Ziebart coating rusted a hole in the frame. That area is the most vulnerable spot for rust, being just behind the front wheels, and having a lot of welds concentrated in a small area.

I passed on a cherry 2017 Off Road because someone undercoated it. Numerous drain holes in the frame were clogged with rubber, now water and salt (I live in the rust belt) will get trapped and cause rust. Just like painting a wall, surface prep is key. Automotive steel is covered with oils from the manufacturing process. Dirt and dust from transport, dealer lots, test drives with get into all the little recesses and areas or the undercarriage. Spraying rubber coating on dirt and oil will just allow water to penetrate and get trapped.

if you want effective rustproofing, use fluid film or wool wax. You have to reapply every year. It smells like vomit when you apply it, and it eventually washes off, but works great. Sell your truck before its turns to dust underneath you. There’s a reason Rusty Jones and their rustproofing ilk went bankrupt.
