    Hello everyone.

Was quoted $400 for an entire undercoating using 1st Canadian 3900T Solvent Based, lifetime warrantied, etc.

Is it worth it? Does it actually work? They also stated it would prevent any surface rust from continuing.

Never heard of it. Usually solvent, or petrol based with last a longer time than ones that aren't....just be sure its not a rubberized coating. At $400 it seems a bit high even if in canada. At that cost your probably given some type of warranty.

Don’t do any sort of rubber or paint undercoating, that just seals rust in and let’s it continue out of view. You need something that’s an oil film or similar.

Yeah it’ll make your undercarriage grimy cause it’ll be covered in oil, but that truly works. Oil is hydrophobic and it also prevents O2 from contacting the frame, it’ll truly help with rust.

Im not sure of the specifics of that treatment but if it’s a liquid film it should work. It’s also an easy DIY with cans of fluidfilm from the auto parts store.

I did an online search for that company. It appears their similar to other large franchise's that do interior, and exterior vehicle protection as such. From what i can gather they must use a product similar to crc, or cosmoline.

I highly recommend Krown Rust Proofing. They are as professional as can be and charge significantly less. Lots of favorable reviews of their service here on TW. I used them, they walk you through the entire process, have a comfortable waiting room with a live feed via television so you can watch and coffee on the house. Your price is locked in as well, future servicing for said vehicle will be the same, no sneaky increased cost, as it’s a once a year procedure.

Are they in Canada? I'm West Coast so my options are fairly limited.

They replied and told me it was like a 'tar' like product.

I believe they have locations in Canada, not 100% but I’m pretty sure they do. Trying to find my receipt, I know I paid less than $150.00

I'm in Alberta, I had Krown done for $150.
They provide warranty and replacement if you rust out holes n such, only thing is you have to get it sprayed once a year.

I personally get it sprayed in the spring time (thats when they recommend it) and i get a couple spray cans to DIY after I do a bunch of offroading.

Diy. Woolwax or fluid film. Easy to do with an inexpensive compressor, and a spray gun.

Woolwax is supposed to be more viscous and resistant to road wash, and is supposed to smell less. But both work great.

This, you can buy a cpl of DIY spray cans at the checkout desk to touch up places you feel may be neglected, one should be more than enough. I bought two and one was all I needed. Probably wasn’t even needed but I was having my frame plugged by Toyota and wanted ultimate peace of mind before they plugged up all the trouble spots with their frame recall servicing plug kit. I missed the deadline so had to pay for this but it was definitely worth it. Not something you need to worry about as I have a 2nd Gen (in regards to the frame plugs).

I would stay away from this, as someone else stated, it locks in rust. Krown uses an oil based film, it’s safe but needs a yearly treatment. Well worth it in my opinion.

hard pass on a tar like product. Fluid film and similar products only for serious rust prevention.

I use crc since it’s a marine rust prevention. Works well

That is a very good product. A company called Ziebart around me uses that and has done so for many many years. They also do a rustproofing that covers the inside of the fenders, doors, rockers etc. and it is more of a snot color and never completely dries. I have had this done before and it was great so I had it done to the Taco a week ago. Cost me $799 for undercoating and rustproofing. It is pretty much lifetime, but they say you can bring it in every year for $60 and they will wash the underside and do any touchups needed from abrasion wear.

Have used professional tar-type (ziebart), toyota CRC, just more paint, and fluid film/woolwax.

I would have saved so much work if I'd discovered fluid film/woolwax years ago and started with that. Of the two, woolwax sprays poorly but stays in place much better. Fluid film creeps more but drips and will get washed off eventually.

I have used fluid film from day 1 going on my 4th year in the rust belt and my under carriage still looks new. Plus I only have to use 2-4 cans to reapply in October and I’m good to go. As said above stick with oil film avoid any tar like substance.
