So I'm looking at a 2013 ACLB TRD offroad in Michigan. Yes I know, northern state, rust comes with the territory. This truck has around 60k miles on it. I am wondering if the amount of rust underneath is par for the course on a truck like this or if I should reconsider the purchase. Take a look:

Also, I noticed in the second picture there appears to be some brand new bolts and some kind of new bracket on the frame. Anyone have an idea what these would be and why they would have been replaced? Thanks

That doesn't look too bad. Not bad at all in my opinion.

Look on the inside of the frame on the passenger side right next to the catalytic converter. That is where they trust out. If it is good then I would go for it. Just make sure when you get it to treat the rust that is there. Personally I would use a wire wheel on a drill and bring all the rust to bare metal then apply a chassis paint like por15 or chassis saver. Finally I'd fluid film the whole underside every fall and spring. I was stationed in northern MI for 1 1/2 years and did this exact thing on my truck. Very very small amount of rust over the whole winter and in the spring that small spot went to bare metal and repainted. Fluid film works great. Luckily I moved back south!

I can't tell from the pics if it's a new frame, but it definitely has received the latest anti-corrosion treatment process. That's what some of those new parts are from.

Truth be told, for a northern state where they use road salt, it looks damn good. I wish my 2014 that's lived its whole life in upstate New York looked that good. Don't let all of the southern California, never seen salt, panic mongers scare you. That's life up here and that truck will be just fine. I would Fluid Film or Crown the entire underside though.

Looks real good to me, for the area & age. On a '13 you've got frame replacement coverage to '25 if it turns to shit (unlikely). Buy it, coat with Fluid Film, and sleep well...

Very good looking MI truck.. Lived here all my life. Nice Taco..
You could use the fact that your a little timid about buying it to get a better deal, but I would not walk away from that rust at all

    We're is it at??, lol

That’s in great shape coming from MI. Either the guy took great care of it, or the frame has already been replaced...

Looks great, the surface rust on the welds is perfectly normal. Just do your due diligence and fine tooth comb it. I'd have no problem buying that truck.

I remember seeing stacks of new Tacoma frames at the Toyota dealers waiting to be installed on those that had failed inspection, and those new frames (including their LCAs) were already rusting at the weld joints.

"passenger side right next to the catalytic converter" U R Correct Sir ! My frame was perfect because I coated it every year - I didn't see this spot and glad I didn't because I got a new frame because the tec that inspected it knew what you know "passenger side right next to the catalytic converter" Great Advice
