Moving to Utah and was wondering what everyone does for frame rust protection. My truck is a southern truck living in GA and the truck has been in GA its whole life and want to keep frame rust from happening. Wondering if I should surface prep and have painted let me know your thoughts.

^^^ This. Moved to Utah as well and only can find rubber undercoating. Presently going the spray can route. Do whatever you need.done prior to moving if you have a trusted mechanic. All the trades here get top dollar. Next year I will have a spray rig.

If the frame doesn't have rust, then I don't think any prep is needed. If there are rusty spots, wire brush, use some sore of rust neutrilizer (ie Metal Prep) and then paint.

The suggestions above are great. I have my truck sprayed annually at Krown (just looked and don't see any in Utah). No mater which of these products is used, do the application annually. Stay away from the spray on stuff that gets hard and only requires a single application.

When you do get the frame sprayed, drop your spare and skid plate 1st. Wash the frame to make sure it is reasonable clean before spraying.

Just got my truck sprayed at Krown this week. 15th application since I bought it new. Spent its entire life in Canada.

i am trying out the amber cosmoline product on a Gen2 Taco after painstakingly removing that rubbery tarlike frame coating the dealer applied as new
it is Supposed to last Much Longer than the FF product and less messy to the touch than the WW product

i have yet to tinker in the KROWN product but heard it is very good...

I am sitting in a Krown lobby waiting for them to finish up as I type, haha.

I saw a lot of "still looks great after 3 years" posts, but your truck is a fantastic endorsement. Lucky we have them near me here in the US, not many outside of Canadia.

Rust belt person here. I would avoid any rubberized coating or any other coating that dries hard to the touch as they dry hard and eventually crack allowing moisture in, the moisture sets in there longer, and rust forms. Rust preservative coatings that dry hard don't flow as freely when applied either. I learned this from experience. I purchased an '87 Ford Ranger new, applied a type of coating that dried hard, and after a few years it started to crack, it was hard to apply anything over it to keep the moisture out. All I can say is after 17 years and how badly the frame had rusted out, plus other issues, I drove it to the junkyard and got some cash for it.

As others have written, do not use rubberized or hard drying coating. Zebart is the death knell of frames. Youtube vids on this.

I'd like the first episode with my new to me truck be done professionally.

Then I'd be cool DIYing it after that.

Looks like patriotliner north of Atlanta in Cartersville does Krown. May be a little far for you in Southern Georgia but I come up with zero places in utah except the rubberized crap. Oildrop guy has video for diy. Assuming you're driving to Utah there may be a place along the way.

True, if there's nothing else to be done though I suppose. That said, I myself would rather just pay to get it done as wel.
