    LS1 swap with nitros.
I'd suggest you hit the rusting parts with POR-15 treatment, then do as others have said and fluid film the underside well.

What would be the most cost effective treatment of a frame on a brand new truck in terms of corrosion preventative? And what would be the ideal follow up routine thereafter?

Although not as robust as the salty air of coastal regions, my area in the mountains still plays havoc on the underside of cars, especially in Winter.

I don't want to go down this frame failure road again so I am pretty adamant about doing routine maintenance from now on.

It's actually really good folks are posting pictures of this now. Seeing it's early onset is a more valuable clue of a pattern that is still early enough to get on top of.

    Keep them coming!

As suggested, Fluid Film is your friend. 3 BC winters throughout the province and my truck's undercarriage still looks new.

I found it's cheapest at Napa Auto and they sell by the gallon. Don't wait till fall or winter to buy it though as they jack up the prices during this time.

So if I cover as much of my frame with this as possible from the day I take my new truck home and then re-apply regularly I should be good to go.

It really would be great if it were that simple...

Yes, it is that simple. I sprayed the undercarriage before its first winter and thereafter every September/October.

I get mine coated at Rust Check every year. spotless underneath (well, other than the road grime stuck to the oil). Rust check offers a dripless product which wont leave spots where you park (which krown or fluid film will do for a few days)

The dealerships do not want truck owners to undercoat, I own a 2016 Tacoma and have under coated the truck every year and it is ok to spray rust check around the shocks and brake system.

The only reason "The dealerships do not want truck owners to undercoat" is that they want to sell you a new truck sooner, than later.

Undercoating is the way to go, wether it be Krown or a ma and pa shop, anything at all is going to help. I'm out in the Maritimes, they also salt like cazy here and very salty air. Undercoated my 07 2nd gen yearly, sometimes twice a year and never ran into any of the frame rust issues, looked like new underneath if you wiped it off with your finger even at 12 years old. Soon as I picked up my new 3rd gen the first place I went was straight to the shop to get it undercoated.
