i just installed a procomp add a leaf and also bought new u bolts, however they dont seem to fit quite right. im able to tap them down over the axle but they spread out about 1/4 of an inch to wide for the bottom plate that they sit in. i managed to use c clamps to bend them and get them in but could this cause issues?

Correct u bolts should fit perfect. If they are spreading they are too small. Get the correct ones. If they are too small they may also not be as strong. They should replace them for free if they sent you the wrong ones.

Ive never had u bolts spread at the bottom and have to use something to bend them back to fit into the bottom plate.

There's your problem... it's 4 Wheel Parts giving you advice. I wouldn't trust those boobs to mount a tire properly let alone reattach my axle. Get the correct size ubolts and insist they take the undersize ones back. Ubolts should fit perfect, mine did on both vehicles I've changed them on.

    LOL

if you bend a ubolt at home by eyeballing it, you have a shape mismatch.
    not -maybe-
you will have a mismatch where the springs are clamped down,

and premature spring failure will result

it is just a matter of flexing and time

ubolts are pretty critical, they are not just a hunk of iron.
are you gonna have a problem? maybe not. but I would be getting
ones that are factory made that fit correctly with no unusual loads
needed to be applied to install them.

I couldn't have said it better. Ubolts are cheap, it would really suck to fawk up a truck just because of poor fitment.

I think I need to clarify a bit, the new ubolts are the same size as the old ones, they are just longer it's just that the add a leaf is about an 1/8 of an inch wider than the factory springs causING the bolts to spread out a bit. So when I needed to add some prsure to bend them in place... that sound about right?

So you have the wrong add a leaf for your truck, how much wider is it?

So it's not the U-bolts that are the wrong size, it's the AAL?

It's a common problem for them, I've had the same issue when I was leaf sprung. Just bend them into the holes and hammer it down. Never had a problem with a broken u-bolt before, just make sure to tighten them evenly enough.

The leaf being wider is not right though.

Sounds like a situation where you just have to use your best judgment, when people build custom leaf packs its not uncommon for then to shave the leaf down using an angle grinder. If it seems like it fits okay then run it I suppose.

    so it's the leafs ?

your springs will eventually bust and maybe the ubolt too

bad idea all around to have mismatched parts which bind together
    and constantly flex

the springs are the rated for tacomas 2005 - 11, mines a 07 so they are the correct springs. the u bolts are the old man emu ubolts for this specific 1.5inch lift in the back which im doing. (4 wheel parts gave me this info and i checked and its correct). but for whatever reason it was a bit of a bitch getting the ubolts on as they were being spread apart just barely so they wouldnt quite fit in the holes of the underclamp, by the ever so slightly wider ad a leaf. however once i got them on they tightened down fine and fit very snug.. the only issue i can see is the ubolts might have a bit of tension on the sides. so maybe ill go back and trim the sides of the ad a leaf...

If it's the right leaf for your truck, just take the leaf to the bench grinder and shave off 1/16" on each side of the leaf. Shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to achieve that.
