What would be the best all terrain tire for fuel economy? I drive 20k miles a year, so the MPGs matter. I get off road a few times a year, but I want something that looks at least kind of aggressive, and does well in the snow.

I'm not discount but this is what I suggest for this scenario.

    https://www.yokohamatire.com/tires/geolandar-a-t-g015

All weather, mild all terrain, good manufacturer.

@Fox Mulder tires are a product of compromise. More aggressive tread A/T tires boast off road ability with mild road noise but do not have a rating for MPG or low rolling resistance. A less aggressive tread like the Michelin LTX M/S or the Yokohama Geolandar GO15 recommended by @Bishop84 would be geared more for drivability on highway with mild off road and better MPG over the life of the tire. Its hard for manufacturers to produce one tire that meets all demands of consumers. The Falken Wildpeak A/T3W is used by many forum members and MPG is rarely a concern. I hope this helps.

That’s actually a pretty good looking tire! I don’t know much about Yokohamas, except my wife’s last 2 Subarus have come with Avid GTs and they only last about 32,000 miles. Would the Geolandars last a reasonable amount of time? I do love a Michelin, but the LTX looks like a car tire, I was hoping to at least look the part, lol.

The factory Yokohama's never get much life, but the G015 in P rated has a 60k mileage promise and LT have a 50k promise. I know the Michelin doesn't look the part of A/T but it is very functional and has a 70k promise and best ride quality. Both are a solid choice.

Weight will by far be the biggest factor in fuel economy, followed by drag. This is further exacerbated by the fact that rims and tires are unsprung rotating mass. You cannot run an LT tire and expect better mileage than the stock p rated tires of the same size. The only way I found to retain stock mileage was to get a much smaller width LT tire than stock, as it weighs the same as my P rated tires. In my case that meant going to a 215/85 16. I got Firestone Destination XTs. Love the tire and is great in the snow. That being said, I have a second set of rims with p rated General Grabber HTs, which are a p rated 245/75 R16 that I use most of the time. Have you considered 2 sets of tires/rims? In the end, the cost is the same, but you get great snow tires with one set, and economy with the other. Pick up a set of stock alloys, as steelies are heavy. Gas is now over $8 gallon for regular, so I personally don't give a crap what my tires look like when I'm mall crawling. You can't fight physics; if you ride a bicycle much you'll really appreciate how light wheels and tires transform a vehicle.
Weigh your current set up, do some research, and get something even lighter.

285s with a canopy, lift, winch and I get around 20 mpg on highway road trips with 60mph limits. You don’t need to go boring, just try to keep it around 45lbs for a 265 or 52lbs for a 285.

Function>form. LTX is a great tire. Just my $0.02. Driving around with heavy, noisy, A/Ts lis the equivalent to wearing hiking boots all the time so people know you're outdoorsy.
People will know you're "looking the part" when you're truck is in 4low crawling up some jagged road to some sweet isolated spot by a lake.
Except there won't be anyone around.
90% of the time, the more "off roady" looking a truck is, the less it is offroaded. "Pinstripes" are the real indicator in this area if a truck has been off pavement.

Yep, I’m taking the weight into account for sure.

I totally agree, and I definitely don’t think it makes sense for me to go to a full blown AT. But I was thinking about something a little more aggressive than the LTX, which is a great tire for sure, it just hasn’t been on my radar.

The toyo AT3 is a good compromise. It's lightweight, not to aggressive, but rugged enough to handle trails, and last a long time.

@Discount Tire how about the AT/X version of the defenders? Any feedback on those? I love my Defenders on my Limited...20k on them in the last 10 months that included 4 winter trips from WA to Montana during some hellacious blizzards...They never missed a beat... average 20mpg...

@ricphoto the Michelin LTX A/T 2 is underwhelming when it comes to A/T tires and off road performance. Because Michelin owns BFGoodrich, I think they focus their R and D more on the K02/K03 brand.

The Michelin LTXs certainly don't look the part but they will get you off-road and into the wilderness when aired down.. My set up is 57lb per wheel assembly with 265/75-16 on 13 year old FN countersteer zero offset 16x8 wheels, 3 lbs less than stock set up.

Best bet for off-road only use is to have two sets of wheels/tires and skill behind the wheel.
