Thought I’d share a review of the Tyger Auto tail light guards for 3rd gen Tacomas. These are available on Amazon here:

I have yet to see any other truck with them installed, maybe because they are more of Jeep thing, but I’ve always liked the look of them personally.

These seem well made. They are rigidly constructed, with a textured “power coat” type finish. They fit exactly as described, and actually do provide some measure of protection for the tail lights when installed.

Installation wasn’t particularly difficult, although instructions weren’t great. Identifying the brackets’ intended install location took a little trial and error, but ultimately they will work one way, so it wasn’t too difficult to sort out.

If there are a couple cons I would point out on these, they would the following. Metal composition of the spring clip style nuts used to affix the mounting brackets to the guards doesn’t look particularly durable, so I have some concern about how well these will fare in the NE winters. Only time will tell there. The other minor failing is they are likely to make the process of changing a tail light or bulb a bit more difficult. This could be compounded by rust or corrosion if the mounting hardware proves to lack durability.

Overall, I’m pleased with them. I like the way they look on my truck and I think they will compliment the stubby front bumper I want to add eventually. Plus, they are somewhat unique among Tacomas. While many of my cosmetic mods fall in line with those done by most Tacoma owners, these are not seen nearly so often! I’d certain recommend them to anyone looking for tail light guards for their truck.

Do you still have these on your truck? I've been thinking about grabbing a pair but held off to read more about them. Have they damaged any paint?

I do still have them installed. They have held up well. No harm to the trucks paint I can see. One does have a small chip in the powder coat finish from a rock, but I treat them regularly with a spray protection (same one used on my paint) and they have corroded or peeled.
