So I bought a $20 two way switch on Amazon so I would be able to wire my ditch lights and rear bumper lights onto one switch. Of course the switch came with directions that did not explain anything and I am just left confused. I have wired switches in the past, but for one reason this one is just confusing me. I had some thoughts in my head about how it worked. I tried wiring it up, but it was constantly backlit even with my truck lights were off. I have seen two other posts about this; one that was the same switch and one that was similar. This is my first time using a forum of this sort so I did not want to tack onto an old thread. Both light systems are wired into Nilight wiring harness'. I normally don't like to ask for answers and just like to do it myself, but I am completely confused on how to wire this up.amazon switch.jpg switch with diagram.jpg wires.jpg
The blue wire in the last picture is a tapped fuse for the tail lights. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If the switch is constantly lite/on its because you have it wired to a always hot. The #2 optional looks like the one for switched light.

Do you want the front or rear lights on all the time? A 2 position switch could be though of as "Front-Rear" a 3 position switch would be "Front-Off-Rear". Unless you have a second switch to control power to that switch.

So when I first wired it up I had the dash lights connected to the #2 wire, but it was always lit. Now I am questioning how I should be wiring it, and what I should be using for the 12v power. Should I be using the red wires from the harnesses and connecting them to #4? The second time I wired it up, I left the grounds and the fuse light connected. the only things that I changed were how the white and red wires were connected. This resulted in me turning the switch on and it killing the headlights, taillights and every other light that turns on once the headlights are turned on. Also I should add that when I wired it up the first time the switches worked, the only thing was the the rear actually turned on the ditch lights and the front turned on the rear bumper lights.

Black on both trios of wires to black on dual switch.
With Multi meter, identify which wire is hot (12v DC) on the trio sets. White or Blue. Once identified, insulate/do not use. (It'll keep switch OFF until pressed)
You must add an ign fused source (add-a-fuse) to #4.
The remaining wire on both trios gets connected to wire 1 and wire 5 of the dual switch.
Your remaining Tail (blue) goes to #2 on dual switch.

I almost finished installing the switch; however, I wasn't 100% sure on what to connect wire #4 to. I know that I am supposed to add an ignition fuse, but my only question is if I should be tapping the fuse.
Other than that the switch is not backlit which I believe is because I do not have the #4 wire wired up. Both sets of lights turn on and off, but that's only when the headlights are turned on; I would also assume this is because I do not have wire #4 wired up. Just out of my own curiosity and learning something that I did not know, Does the ignition always get power? And is this why I am tapping into that specific fuse?

Backlite is your blue wire to #2 and select TAIL on steering stalk for test.
Where did you add the fuse to the added lights relay? Did you add an add-a-fuse to the headlight fuse?

The ignition tap is so the added lights can't be left on after engine shut down...IGN is only active with key in ACC or ON.

So I already had the fuse for backlighting tapped. I used the taillight fuse in the fuse panel. Even when the headlights and/or taillights were turned on, it did not light the switch up until I pressed the switch. When I pressed the switch, it lit up green. The green signifies that the switch is turning on the accessory light, and it is lit up blue when it is not in use and the head/tail lights are turned on.
I haven't tapped any other fuses because I was not sure if I was doing the right thing.

What location did you place the relays?
To what did you tap for the fused power to the relays?

The only relays that are used are what are on the wiring harnesses. The wire that is ran from that tapped fuse is directly wired into the switch.

If you used the HOT/always power wire (here it's white) then the switch can turn lights ON anytime, without the fused IGN tap.
Wiring it like the pic, power to the relay is sent from the tapped fused IGN to the relay closing the coil, powering the lamp. Lamps only come ON when IGN is available.

So if I wanted to be able to turn the lights on even if the truck wasn't on I would wire the switch directly to the "always hot" wire?

Yes, ...seems you have it that way now.

That would get you anytime on.(if indeed the white wire is fused power on your set up)

I ended up figuring it out, this is how my wiring turned out.
    Switch wire #X...
#1 to white wire from ditch lights
#2 to red wires from both harnesses
#3 to black grounds from both harnesses
    #4 to tapped taillight fuse
#5 to white wire from rear bumper lightswiring.jpg

The switch came out very clean and fits perfectly

Over all I am very happy with how it turned out even with all the trouble I had figuring out how to wire it up. On Amazon the switch is called "Dual front light and rear lights for newer Toyota 32mm" and the link is https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0875K8SHG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The switch is mounted where the dead switch below the radio was.

So the instructions are incorrect on the paper then...because #2 Red says it's optional to dash illumination and #4 Yellow is 12vDC input. Good you got it "working".
