Brought my new Tacoma Pro home today and, holy cow, there is a ton to learn regarding all the bells and whistles! I have been able to figure out most things but two have puzzled me. I've gone through the Owner's Manual numerous times and could not locate answers to the below. Hoping some of you can help me?

Question 1: What does the green "READY" indicator mean located in the lower left side of the gauge display?

Question 2: Does my Pro have "Auto Start-Stop?" The engine seems to stop running when I am at a stop light and then kicks back on once I press the accelerator....I hate it! Is there a way to turn this feature off?

Again, I have spent considerable time in the Owner's Manual but just can't seem to locate information on these two questions.

    Thanks all!

The green ready light just tells you the car is turned on and ready to go. Toyota does this because when you hit the start button the engine may not turn on until you hit the gas pedal. If your gentle it may go with electric only.

All hybrids have auto start stop, they also will shut the engine down while driving and run an electric only. No way to bypass it.

I can't actually answer #2 because I haven't goten my truck yet and it might be make/model specific, so I'll let someone else chime in on that. I remember seeing some posts where some people had an option to disable it... but others did not.

Regardless, your two questions are related. Because it is a hybrid, it will "shut off" the ICE at stop lights and when parked, but the green READY indicator lets you know you can press the gas pedal and go. As for the auto-shut-off feature, you do get used to it, especially when that electric motor gets you off the line quicker than the ICE ever did.

Source: wife has a hybrid Sienna, and the updated engine and interior tech were a big reason I jumped on the Toyota ship.

Congratulations on a nice truck! Enjoy the heck out of it!

I never knew or forgot about the auto start stop on hybrids. This is true for all Toyota 48 volt mild hybrid applications including the Tunrda?

Yes, the Hybrids have start/stop. You have a button to disable start/stop easily. See page 6 of your Quick Reference Guide. It's to the right of the mode dial.

Dont think they have it. By design the hybrids should be operating off battery at very low speeds and taking off from a stop unless a lot of power is needed so the engine should be off. Adding an override switch defeats this setup.

Don’t think they have what, the button?

It’s in the truck documentation from Toyota.

@rob4092xx, can you post a picture of the buttons by your mode selector? Do you have a button with a capital A that has an arrow around it.

In the absence of the button, Sport mode and likely other methods would prevent start/stop.

It’s also possible the environmental conditions might disable start/stop. Like anything above 95F keeps the engine running to support better cooling.

I guess hybrid owners need to educate us.

Absolutely no doubt the enviro conditions will be a factor.

I have a 2024 Pro and live in Phoenix. 112 degrees today and Auto Stop-Start still activated.

Tried Sport mode and Auto Stop-Start still activates. Driving me nuts!

That would drive me nuts, too. So no button I assume?

I did look it up!!!! However, even though I am an educated man, I could not make sense of what specifically the button does.

Could someone else, who is considerate and helpful like 99.9% of us, please put what it does in a sentence or two? How is it different than the electric parking brake? For the asshat .01%: yes, I looked it up the parking brake in the manual!

    Yes I do

I just read about it and this is what I gathered...
Its basically the same as an e-brake but to turn it off you press the accelerator. So if you're stuck in traffic and are sitting still you could press the button and maybe stretch your legs or something :notsure: but when traffic continues you would just accelerate and not have to disable the feature like you would an e-brake.
    Thats my take anyhow....
