I've come across two different part numbers listed for a cabin filter, however the only difference I find is that one is listed as a "deodorant" filter, IF that much is even mentioned. Most sites have the exact same description between these two part numbers, and searching around didn't net anything either:

Toyota 88508-01010 vs 88508-04010 ("deoderant" version)

Is the deoderant version an activated charcoal version of a cabin filter (vs regular filter media)? I would go with the charcoal version ideally.

(When I called up the local dealership, I had these numbers, asked if they were the correct parts for the tacoma, they state yes, and we have both... So I Drive there to pick them up... When I get there, talk to the same guy who told me these number were correct, and he states "no, that number was for a 4runner charcoal filter and you gave me the wrong number. There is no charcoal filter for a tacoma." It's excellent to know these people are out and about, good help is truly hard to find. smh.)

If I recall its 60$, not all models have it. I discourage it and like a furnace filter, you're best off buying a cheap filter and replacing it more frequently.

    Unless you have allergies etc.

It's more dense and is actually noticeably heavier, but again, can't recall if Tacoma has it. 4runner for sure.

Those are some good options, thanks! I'm relatively close to a wally world, I'll have to check that out here if they have any. The Amazon one also, that might be worth ordering... I'll have to see what I can find locally tomorrow~ish. Worst case order it for next day :D

In regards to the OEM Toyota filters, I did find a pic of the 04010 'deoderant' version which looks very similar to that Amazon option... both appear to be a charcoal vs reg filter with the darker coloring vs white reg filter media.

At any rate, my thought was to try one of the charcoal versions to see if it made any difference. Worst case again, I'll be at a faster replace rate like you said, Bisbop84.

Have been using the 8850804010 filter in my Tacoma with no issues. Picked up a few last time parts.toyota had a 20% sale.

Haven't noticed a difference either way between the 2 filters , I got the charcoal filters to help with the funky AC smell from the air recirculate.

I tried the Wal-Mart filter and it has been fine. I also have the Amazon one @DVR suggested on the shelf for next time. I'm sure it will be fine also.

It's good to hear all these work and fit without issue, that's excellent and saves me the trial and error part!

The ac recirculate 'stale air smell' is a solid point; something I wondered if the filter might help with if it was a carbon version vs the standard filter. How was ordering/shipping with parts.toyota?

I pick an out of state dealer to save on sales tax, and wait for one of the 20% off sales with free shipping.

Good time to stock up on oil filters, wiper blade inserts, filters, coolant, other misc. maintenance supplies. All of the dealerships offer different markdown percentages on individual parts, so it pays to shop around and price check a few different online dealers depending on what you're buying.
