Turn off car, sometimes beeps at me, sometimes doesn't

New owner. Only had the truck a month. 17 TRD Sport.
Sometimes when I turn the car off the display beeps at me when I open the door with the "door ajar" warning. And sometimes it doesn't.

Also I leave the headlights on auto. And same thing. Sometimes when I park and turn the truck off it beeps at me saying lights are on. And sometimes it doesn't.

In both scenarios I just get out and close the door and lock it and I don't have issues. But 1. The beeping drives me nuts and 2. It always has me concerned that I'm leaving a door open or the headlights won't shut off and I'll run my battery down. So I always have to sit there and wait til lights turn off.

Anyone have this issue? Or know a solution? I swear I'm not doing anything different when I'm getting out.

The truck beeps at you when the remote is too far from the sensor...at least if you have the push button start.

    What a fun truck!
Push the lock button twice after you get out to turn the lights off immediately. Also, don't open your door until you turn off the truck. If you turn off the truck, then open the door, it will not beep.

I do. But it's not that beep. And the truck is off at that point. So it doesn't beep for remote. This is the warning for the door or lights. It says it on center display when it does it. "DOOR AJAR". Or "HEADLIGHHTS ON"

My truck does the same thing so it's probably intentional.

Maybe the dealer can get into the computer and silence it?

Figured that's what people will need to see. Will do it the next couple times I get out of truck to see if it happens. It happens about 30% of the time. It's weird. Other times it's fine. So it might be user error and I'm doing something different that 30% of the time, but I can't think of anything different. And how many different ways are here to turn off your truck and get out of it? Haha.

Headlights turn off within seconds. I also thought the beeping could be turned off through the head unit but couldn't find anything.

Same thing here, if you turn it off before you open the door the beep shouldn't come on. You can also reach for the door sensor in the jam, near the info sticker, and press that if you open the door before you turn the truck off. This should also shut it off, assuming your not planning on getting out right away and shutting the door.

This is the most annoying thing about my '16 TRD sport!!!! It happens when you open the door before you turn the truck off (push start). I had the dealership get rid of my seat belt chime, but they couldn't get rid of the beep when you get out :annoyed:

I'd be willing to bet it's you opening the door before powering the truck off. I do this most times and the beeping is hard to handle, especially if at this point I'm fiddling with stuff or load a bag to go somewhere and have to listen to the beep until I close the door. I found a setting in the EnTune that allowed me to disable that beep for any other door but the drivers door.

It bothers me, 3 months later I haven't gotten used to it or changed my habit of shutting off before I get out, half the time I do it half the time I don't.

My headlights have been on and set to Auto since I bought the truck so doubtful it's the headlights causing your issue.

I'd be surprised if you catch it on video because then your making a conscious effort to shut off before opening vs subconsciously doing the opposite.

... or you actually have some kind of defect or jacked up sensor reading incorrectly and I'm totally wrong!

I bet it is beeping because the sensor that receives the FOB's signal is in the door, near the handle,.... If you have the fob in yer pocket and the door OPEN when truck is shut it off, the sensor does not "see" the fob in it's proximity because the fob is too far away, and it beeps....

I guess I could check this theory by trying it with the fob in right pocket..... then try it with the fob laying in the door latch area, where the interior handle is..

If it bugged me, I'd try that...!

Thanks for input guys. definitely going back to dealer and demanding a free upgrade to a Tundra 1794.

Those who mentioned the Keyfob, it has nothing to do with that. the display says "DOOR AJAR" or "HEADLIGHTS ON". but seems the door might be because i open the door before shutting it off. I don't think I do that, but i'll consciously check. and if it stops happening, then i'll know that was the issue.

Still not sure why the headlight warning comes on sometimes and sometimes doesn't though.

do you mean if you open the door THEN shut off the engine it beeps until the door is closed?

Mine does that and it pisses me off so much. Wish there was some way to disable it.

So this happened to me today. Car was beeping after I opened the door before shutting the motor off.

    Beep beep beep. Annoying.

I left my driver door open and then opened the rear doo for my son to get out and the beeping stopped!

Might be a trick to stop the beeping in the future.

This sh£¥ has also driven me to the point of almost punching the dash . I Took it to the dealer and I said just disconnect the sh#%. I noticed the mechanic kept pushing the door jam switch and it kills the sound. They are aware of the problem i can tell. Just press the switch and it will shut off. Luv the taco but there is some annoying things with it like this
