I’m looking at the MBRP turn down exhaust. My concern is it might be louder than I want. What I mean is the wife might complain lol. I found some YouTube clips of it and sounds pretty good I think. I also like turn down exhaust systems cause you can’t see them. I also came across the AFE rock bashed but can’t find a single sound clip. Anyone have either of these systems? Would you do it over again?

I've heard the MBRP in person and it's probably the loudest exhaust I've heard yet on a Tacoma.

Why spend money on a 'system'? Just cut the pipe off after the turndown over the axle.

Meets your visual goal, prevents smashing the OE position if you off road in rough situations, and leaves money in your wallet.

Wife 'might' notice a bit more noise, but nothing like what an aftermarket would do.

You will be sleeping on the couch if you go for mbrp. I heard a couple in person and holy smokes. Sounds like a civic on steroids. Not sure on the afe though.

Just cut the stock and weld on a turn down tip. I tried the MBRP. Had it on for 3 days. After that weekend it came right back off. Everyone is right with it being super loud. Drove me insane.

Like others have mentioned both of those exhausts are going to be loud and they’re going to drone. MBRP will be much louder than the AFE.

I can't speak about the AFE but I don't think the MBRP turn down is too loud. And my gal loves it but she's also the type who owns a 1970 Monte Carlo V8 small block. I took the gamble on it because it was on sale for $140 from Amazon about 3 years ago and could be easily resold. I have little to no drone but having a MT really helps being able to choose your RPM to avoid drone. I can remember only about 4-5 times having some drone and just shifting to ease it. I have debated taking it off but am far too lazy. If I had an AT I wouldn't own this.
Another couple of things to keep in mind with the turndown style is you'll create a little more dust on trails and you need to be conscience about idling over dry brush etc.

Thx for the help. Would just adding a turn down to a TRD muffler work? The TRD is slightly louder than stock so it might be what I’m looking for.

Trd sounds great, not too loud and gives a nice rumble. My buddy has it on his 19 off road. It sounds kind of similar to my borla.

My buddy did his turndown with the MPRP and took it off shortly there after. Loud as F#ck not to mention MBRP has to be the worst sounding exhaust. I get some people are into loud but loud and obnoxious is a different story. I liken it to music. Sounds great loud when you like the music but crank up some baby shark do do do do do do and it just got obnoxious

I have the MBRP turn down. It's louder than stock and sounds,,, okay. It doesn't bother me that much considering before that I had Corsa catless headers and their Xtreme catback exhaust on my 16 Mustang. Now that was loud and obnoxious.

I cut mine off at the last hanger. Looks much better IMO. Cut was angled to Blow exhaust to the side and downwards.

Yeah I had a MBRP turndown for about 6 months. I liked it around town and the gurgle when I’d downshift but on the highway it was terrible.

    This.

It's hard for me to know what obnoxious actually is because for most people who haven't really had an aftermarket exhaust they might not know what a REALLY obnoxious exhaust is.

My Civic runs a toda rep header, no cat, to a 3" system with straight through res and muffler. Sounds great, but is quite loud.

edit: yes my whole exhaust system on my civic is bigger than my truck :bananadance:
