That was a programming issue with early 2021 builds. Toyota released a TSB to update the programming and the turbo issue was resolved. It's not being reported on builds post March 2022.

Hasn't Ford had fire issues with their batteries when they get wet? Is an off road vehicle best served with batteries at all. I'm sure Toyota figured this out.

We had a 2011 Honda hybrid CR-Z. Bought new, and traded in 2020. Still had the original hybrid battery, although it was getting noticeably weak. But that hybrid had fans to cool the hybrid batteries when charging, and the fan system failed out of warranty. Cost close to $1000 to repair.

Well the Tundra problems don't necessarily mean they will/would happen on the Tacoma turbos. Also i believe it is the electronic wastage control. Which knowing ny issues from the Tundra could have been engineered on the tacoma. Time will tell.

The hummer EV didn't seal undercarriage connections properly and the connections got corroded. That was a while ago. Dunno about the ford

Yeh they just guess and expect people to believe them just because they think that's what happens. Then we don't hear from them again when opposing facts are shown.

Remove jump seats. Add dog platform. Add ARE DCU topper with camper mods.
Frame replacement was the result of a class action lawsuit. All else on my 2009 has held up very well. Still young at 145,000 mi.

The 10k oil change intervals that were being pushed by manufacturers were a HUGE mistake. Especially when people ignored the part about changing it every year regardless of mileage. I think that's what ultimately gave turbo engines a bad name. Poor maintenance will kill any engine.

Thanks for the update with the lawsuit. My 2003 served me well.

Yeah, before anyone else starts crowing about the reliability of the "old school" Tacomas let's not forget they had a recall to replace entire frames.

Not too concerned about the hybrid longevity... Toyota knows how to do hybrids.

Turbos... yeah I don't know how these will do. As for trucks... most Tacoma drivers don't do the "truck" stuff ALL THE TIME... and I suppose the ones that do will try not to get a hybrid.

Me... I like camping often, occasional offroading trips... But mostly around town and getting to work. So the hybrid it is for me.

Imagine people having reasonable questions and concerns about a huge change in the Tacoma DNA. Those who act like people shouldn’t even have these concerns are clearly over emotional babies. Give me a break.

Toyota has been making hybrids for a long time, and have been putting turbos in engines for even longer. Many of those turbo cars are sold all over the world and even in third world countries where the cars are beat to shit.

People who say turbos are bad for longevity are living in the 80s like they own a Buick Regal or some shit.

I’m just not real interested in having a hybrid battery placed in the cab underneath my kid’s car seat, and all the stuff that gets spilled down there.

California is full of Priuses with dead hybrid batteries acting as deadweight because the people driving them can’t afford to have them replaced or even removed.
