Does anyone have a turbo 2.7L tacoma? If so how much would it cost me to turbo mine and how reliable is it

    I have one.
    Best worst decision ever.

Plan your budget. Then double it.
I'm into mine about $4000 right now.

That doesn’t sound very promising lol. What about the URD supercharger? It doesn’t seem too bad and gives you some good power

Being that the URD supercharger is an actual kit, with tuning solution- that would be the way to go unless you have a pretty good set of mechanical abilities, tuning software, and fabrication knowledge.
There's no true turbo kit for our trucks. The manifolds right now are trash Chinesium (until Torspd finishes the prototype stainless ones!), you're limited to T25 5-bolt turbos with them, and there's no tuning support unless you go full standalone.

I'd still take a turbo over a supercharger any day, though :bananadance:

I guess you’re right, I have already done a bunch of mods for my engine, CAI, headers, etc and I don’t want to have to take any of them off to replace it for the supercharger. When do you think LCE will make one? I already have their headers

    Well that's just useless info.
A turbo or supercharged 2.7 is more reliable than an NA 4.0.

    Believe what you wish.
Internals, as well as the trans of the 2.7 are built much stronger than the 4.0 counterparts.
I've smoked plenty of my friends' bolt-on NA 4.0's with my truck. It's not difficult.

lol, people racing budget Japanese pick up trucks make me laugh. A 16 second 1/4 mile truck must be thrilling to drive....

you spent 4k for how much hp? Like 220whp?

how many miles on your set up to back up your reliability claim?

I didn't think this would have an argument start... but if the hp gain is small it's still fun to do what you want to your truck. I mean, it is his preference anyways to like the 2.7 over the 4.0. Either way I just wanted to know how much it would cost I'm just looking for a little bit more power not to race

I'm in it 4k total for everything since.
    Making roughly 250-260 on 8-10psi.
I have 50k miles on the turbo setup. Only issue I ever had was the garbage manifold cracking, leading to exhaust leaks.

I'd rather spend 4k on a turbo or supercharger than 30k on a new truck.

Try actually doing research before claiming people would give wrong info.

Mind sending me a turbo? I'm just kidding, also how long did it take you to do your setup? I would guess like 6 or 7 months right

The research took the longest, since there wasn't much info other than a former member's build thread. It was just a matter of sourcing the manifold and downpipe, then everything else was "easy" to get.
I spend about 6 months researching and gathering what I thought I needed, then did the install itself in one afternoon with a friend (minus having tapped the upper oil pan the night before so the FIPG could cure overnight).

Immediately after, the clutch started slipping- so that had to be upgraded.
After that, I got the Hewitt Tech SAIS bypass kit to prevent CEL's for removing the SAIS system.
I've upgraded the water lines to quality braided ones, as well as the oil drain (Since it passes through the center of the manifold).

The truck has never left me stranded, even on a 400mi drive. No overheating issues when driving offroad or on the beach.
I did upgrade the turbo to a larger, better one- that's included in that 4k budget I mentioned.

I also recently upgraded to the URD Power Pipe, as my stock cats were clogged up, and I knew it'd give a big increase in power.

Do you daily yours? And yes, research does take a while Ive been researching about turbos and superchargers, seeing which one I want more. Thanks for the help bud, I appreciate it and your build sounds pretty damn nice

Mine is my daily driver, yes.
I go on multiple short trips daily, along with a 50mi round trip every other day for the most part.

I visit my family 200mi away at least one weekend a month, and go skiing 300mi away multiple times a month in the winter.
It's been solid albeit a few little gremlins here and there.

Dependability and reliability are all dependent on how well you build it...not whether you have a 2.7 or a 4.0.
