Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
I have thoroughly searched this forum and others to find this info, but i apologize in advance as i am sure someone will post a link.

Anywho, i am adding a 135lb winch and bumper to the front of my dclb trd sport '14. I want to compensate for the weight and wouldnt mind a 2" or so bump up as well if that is the case. It seems using tundra struts would be the most cost effective way to achieve this, but i cannot find anyone doing this on the late gen tacomas, only 4runners and 1st gen.

So, i am open to others courses of action, just trying to inexpensively source a set of front struts, switch top caps and then bolt on appears to be the best. Not sure what to on the rear as far as leveling, but i guess i will figure that out later.

Thanks, in advance for any help or guidance.

I think that the 1st Gen Taco, 3rd Gen 4Runner, & 1st Gen Tundra could swap suspension parts around.

I don't think I've read anything about the 2nd Gen Taco/4th Gen 4Runner and 2nd Gen Tundra sharing parts.

Not sure how much the 887s are but an ome set of front struts are over 400, not sure if that includes coils, additional 160+. New take off tundra complete struts, late gen, 100-150.

    Cost....

Not everybody on here can rock the icons and fox setups. I am surprised to not find more of this on here. Plenty of stuff off the shelf but not much retrofit on here. This would be great stuff to know and learn, tundra spring rates vs tacoma

I don't know a lot about suspension and I have a very short wife with limited mobility. I do NOT plan to lift my truck. If I can find inexpensive ways to improve its performance and abilities as others remove perfectly good parts in their quest to lift and modify their own trucks, then I want to gain the knowledge to be able to do that.

I don't be grudge others for their desire to customize. In my case the money spent was a lot for me and I don't plan to discard perfectly good parts for the sake of name or style. This is the same reason I am running stock wheels and tires with an eye out for others 17" take-offs. When mine wear out I plan to have a set, purchased at discount, ready to go on. I am a retired disabled vet not a rich man with money to burn.

My thought was if Tundra parts fit and are heavier duty I could pick those up for future upgrade purposes like I plan to do with tires and wheels.

Not sure about Taco's, but there are some swaps from 1st gen Tundra to early 2000 4Runners. Did Tundra Brake swap and front struts on my nephews 2002 Runner

I wonder if the Bilstein 5100 adjustables would do the job. If you raise it up to 2.5 inches it should do everything you want. I have read pretty good things about them on here. Just an idea.

Absolutely, there is numerous stuff on this on yotatech and ttora. The 4Runner front axle weight is slightly more than the tacoma, but this is all 1st Gen Taco/Tundra and 3rd Gen 4Runner stuff.

There is no shortage of excellent products that would work and this may ultimately end that way, but I am trying to utilize/retrofit some excellent OEM take-offs.

Tundra coilovers will not fit. At least not without cutting your coil buckets off. King, Fox, Radflo, and Icon coilovers will all accept spring rates up to 700lb. You will not need a higher spring rate than that. Call SDHQ, they will get you set up in no time. http://sdhqoffroad.com/contact-us/

guys are gonna be ditching bilstein 5100's when the new 6112's come out in January...you could set them at factory ride height and have a fairly decent upgrade.

Someone mentioned above to just,do ome 887 springs so I posted a pic of my truck with 887 springs to show the op how much lift you get with them. What does your post have to do with swapping tundra parts onto a tacoma?

Road Dawg, thanks for that heads up. I may have enough saved up after Christmas for that.

Xtyfighterx, thanks for the photo, I'm pretty sure you were just rubbing it in, nice setup but I don't need any more encouragement.

No problem, u can use 887s on stock shocks (not sure how long the stock ones will last tho) with a bumper and winch you will get 2in of lift or so. 167$ for a set.
